The Details: MicroStrategy said the aggregate principal amount of the notes sold in the offering was $3 billion, which includes $400 million aggregate principal amount of notes issued pursuant to an option to purchase.&nbsp;

MicroStrategy intends to use the net proceeds from the sale of the notes to acquire additional Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) and for general corporate purposes. MicroStrategy holds a total of 331,200 Bitcoin purchased at an average price of approximately $49,874 per coin as of Nov. 17.

The AdvisorShares Pure US Cannabis ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MSOS#NYSE">MSOS</a>), often viewed as a benchmark for MSOs, dropped by -4.31%, closing at $4.56. This decline highlights the continued uncertainty in the cannabis space, as investors reassess the implications of a reshuffling political landscape.
Curaleaf Holdings Inc. (OTCQX:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CURLF#OTCQX">CURLF</a>), one of the largest MSOs in the U.S., shed -4.10%, finishing the day at $1.99. Trulieve Cannabis Corp. (OTCQX:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TCNNF#OTCQX">TCNNF</a>) was not far behind, falling -1.93% to $6.11. Meanwhile, Cresco Labs Inc. (OTCQX:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CRLBF#OTCQX">CRLBF</a>) dropped -5.74%, closing at $1.15.While some MSOs struggled, Green Thumb Industries (OTCQX:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GTBIF#OTCQX">GTBIF</a>) managed to stay in positive territory closing at $9.30.
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Sundial Stands Out</h3>
Sundial Growers Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SNDL#NASDAQ">SNDL</a>) defied the broader sector trends, climbing 1.79% to end the day at $1.995. Other gainers included Tilray Brands Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TLRY#NASDAQ">TLRY</a>), which rose 1.94% to $1.315, and Canopy Growth Corporation (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CGC#NASDAQ">CGC</a>), up 2.53% to $3.855.

The price of leading cryptocurrency Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) continues to hit new all-time highs, breaking several records since the<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cryptocurrency/24/11/42109267/bitcoin-hits-new-all-time-high-above-98000-as-spot-etfs-crack-100-billion-net-asset-value-milestone"> 2024 presidential election.</a>
Investors who bought earlier this year or ahead of the election have generated strong profits, but nowhere near the gains that investors got being early believers in the cryptocurrency.
What Happened: In October 2008, pseudonymous&nbsp;Satoshi Nakamoto<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cryptocurrency/22/08/28349295/understanding-bitcoins-whitepaper" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">&nbsp;published a whitepaper</a>&nbsp;titled &#8220;Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System.&#8221; The whitepaper provided many key details and explained why Bitcoin was created.
In January 2009, Nakamoto mined the genesis block of the first 50 Bitcoins and the cryptocurrency was officially born.
When Bitcoin was released, there were only two ways to get the cryptocurrency: mine the Bitcoin yourself or use a peer-to-peer transaction.
Bitcointalk, a forum created by Nakamoto to host discussions on Bitcoin, was used for several transactions. The transactions were deemed risky at the time because they required trust from both parties and were mostly anonymous.
In October 2009, one of the first-ever recognized Bitcoin transactions happened when a Finnish computer science student sold 5,050 Bitcoin for $5.02 (which represented a value of $0.0009 for each Bitcoin), according to&nbsp;<a href="https://www.forbes.com/advisor/investing/cryptocurrency/bitcoin-price-history/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Forbes</a>. The transaction took place on&nbsp;PayPal.
Less than a year later in May 2010, one of the most famous Bitcoin transactions of all time — and what is widely believed to be the first retail transaction — took place when programmer&nbsp;Laszlo Hanyecz&nbsp;sought out a person to buy him pizza in exchange for Bitcoin. A person in England subsequently spent around $41 to buy pizza from Papa John&#8217;s for Hanyecz in exchange for 10,000 Bitcoin. This represented a value of around $0.0041 for each Bitcoin.
It wasn&#8217;t until 2011 and after the launch of several major crypto exchanges that the cryptocurrency hit a price of $1.
In 2021, Bitcoin&nbsp;<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cryptocurrency/23/12/36083106/heres-how-much-100-invested-in-bitcoin-today-will-be-worth-if-crypto-hits-new-all-time-hig" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">hit an all-time high</a>&nbsp;of $68,789.63 as part of a year that saw increased interest in the leading cryptocurrency and many other cryptocurrencies.
In 2022, Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies fell in value and interest with several notable cryptocurrency trading platforms declaring bankruptcy.
The<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cryptocurrency/24/01/36514679/wall-street-enters-the-crypto-age-sec-issues-historic-approval-of-spot-bitcoin-etfs" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">&nbsp;approval of Bitcoin ETFs&nbsp;</a>in 2024 has led to increased interest in Bitcoin once again and a surge in the price of the leading cryptocurrency.
Fast forward to today and Bitcoin is trading near the $100,000 milestone with a current price of $98,093.47 at the time of writing. Bitcoin hit a new all-time high of $99,014.21 earlier on Nov. 21, 2024.

Investing $1 in Bitcoin:&nbsp;Using the early transactions referenced above, a hypothetical investment in the early days could have provided quite the return for its holder, or in this case a &#8220;hodler.&#8221;
A $1 investment in Bitcoin at the time of the first transaction on PayPal would have netted 1,111.1111 Bitcoin.&nbsp;That investment would be worth $108,992,743.36 today based on a price of $98,093.47 for Bitcoin at the time of writing.
In contrast, a $1 investment in Bitcoin at the time of the Bitcoin-pizza transaction could have bought 243.9024 Bitcoin.&nbsp;That investment would be worth $23,925,232.76 today based on the same price of $98,093.47 for Bitcoin at the time of writing.
While investing in Bitcoin today might never be worth millions of dollars in the future, the hypothetical investment illustrated the large increase in the value of the leading cryptocurrency over time. Ark Invest CEO Cathie Wood<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/education/24/11/42017619/heres-how-much-100-in-bitcoin-could-be-worth-in-2030-if-cathie-woods-price-target-is-reached"> has a price target </a>of $3.8 million for Bitcoin by 2030.
A fixed supply of 21 million Bitcoin could also lead to further increases in the asset&#8217;s price as more people seek to take positions.
Many have predicted Bitcoin&#8217;s death over the years, but the cryptocurrency remains the leader in the space and has a market capitalization of over $1 trillion today.

Denmark is poised to cement its place as a leader in <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/medical-cannabis">medical cannabis</a> regulation. On November 19, Minister of the Interior and Health Sophie Løhde <a href="https://www.ism.dk/nyheder/2024/november/regeringen-vil-goere-ordning-med-medicinsk-cannabis-paa-recept-permanent">proposed</a> making the country's medical cannabis trial scheme permanent, a bold move following <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cannabis/23/10/35346758/europes-high-irish-gps-against-pot-switzerland-spain-share-data-on-cannabis-clubs-more">years of steady growth</a> in patient participation.
<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Medical Cannabis Success in Denmark</h4>
The trial scheme, introduced in 2018, aimed to provide patients with conditions such as multiple sclerosis and cancer access to medical cannabis treatments. Extended in 2021, the program is set to expire at the end of 2025. However, its success has been undeniable. Over the last three years, more than 20,000 prescriptions have been redeemed, and approximately 1,800 patients are currently benefiting from cannabis-based medicines.
Minister Løhde highlighted the program&#8217;s impact: "We see that many patients who receive medical cannabis prescriptions appear to benefit from the treatment. This includes cancer patients suffering from severe nausea after chemotherapy and people with multiple sclerosis experiencing intense pain."
<h4 class="wp-block-heading">The Road to Permanency</h4>
The government's proposal reflects its commitment to ensuring continued legal access to medical cannabis for patients. Minister Løhde emphasized the need for collaboration, stating, "We first need to hear the perspectives of the parties involved in the agreement."
On November 19, Løhde invited representatives from political groups behind the original agreement—SF, Liberal Alliance, Red-Green Alliance, Danish People&#8217;s Party, and the Alternative—to discuss the scheme's future.
<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Industry Support</h4>
Denmark's cannabis industry also welcomed the news. Thomas Skovlund Schnegelsberg, CEO of Danish MMJ producer Stenocare, expressed optimism about the proposal. "It is excellent news for patients and Stenocare that the government is now taking steps toward permanent legalization. We are confident that the future of medical cannabis treatment is in good hands," adding that "the permanent legalization will establish a clear framework for the future, offering clarity beyond December 2025 and justifying investments in new products that deliver value to both doctors and patients."
As negotiations unfold, Denmark appears ready to solidify its role as a pioneer in regulated medical cannabis, offering hope and legal options to patients across the country.

The Details: NetApp reported quarterly earnings of $1.87 per share, which beat the analyst consensus estimate of $1.78. Quarterly revenue came in at $1.65 billion, which beat the analyst consensus estimate of $1.64 billion and is an increase over revenue of $1.56 billion from the same period last year.
The company reported:

<li>Record second quarter non-GAAP operating margin of 29%. </li>
<li>Returned $406 million to stockholders through share repurchases and cash dividends. </li>

Exchange-traded funds (ETFs) have exploded in popularity since they were introduced in the 1990s. Like a mutual fund, one ETF invests in hundreds of stocks across various sectors. Some mutual funds and ETFs specialize in certain sectors like small cap stocks or consumer staples.

Unlike mutual funds, ETFs usually offer lower fees and greater tax advantages, which is why they&rsquo;re becoming even more popular with younger investors. Many larger banks including JPMorgan Chase &amp; Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/JPM#NYSE">JPM</a>) and Dimensional Fund Advisors have been converting more of their mutual funds to ETFs for these reasons and to attract new investors.

<h2>The New JPMorgan Realty Income ETF&nbsp;</h2>

The JPMorgan Realty Income Fund (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/JPRE#NYSE">JPRE</a>) was established as an open-ended mutual fund in 1998 and has become an ETF as of May 2022. Aside from this realty ETF, JPMorgan has converted its JPMorgan Inflation Managed Bond Mutual Fund (JIMAX) into the JPMorgan Inflation Managed Bond ETF (BATS:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/JCPI#BATS">JCPI</a>).

The JPMorgan Realty ETF has $1.2 billion in assets under management and invests in equity as well as debt <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/money/best-reits/">real estate investment trusts (REITs)</a> throughout the U.S. Some of its most heavily weighted holdings include Prologis, Public Storage and Equinix. It&rsquo;s an actively managed fund with an expense ratio of 0.50%, which is much lower than the average equity mutual fund&rsquo;s expense ratio of 0.71%.

<h2>Why Convert a Mutual Fund to an ETF?</h2>

By converting mutual funds to ETFs, fund managers can retain the track record of the fund. The track record can show a glimpse into its past performance and holdings. By maintaining this track record, fund managers won&rsquo;t have to spend time and money creating new investment funds. Making this switch also prevents the fund managers from having to repeat securing and tying up seed capital from investors.

Another major reason behind <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/money/what-is-an-etf/">ETF conversions is taxes</a>. Mutual funds are relatively tax inefficient since they provide frequent capital gains distributions to investors.

Capital gain distributions occur when a mutual fund buys and sells its holdings. Investors have to pay taxes on these capital gains distributions if they have these mutual funds in taxable brokerage accounts.

On the other hand, ETFs are structured differently than mutual funds and have much fewer capital gains distributions, resulting in lower taxes for investors. ETFs are more liquid since they trade throughout the day like a stock. Mutual funds are less liquid since they only trade once per day at the market close.

<h2>Other Firms are Hopping on the ETF Conversion Bandwagon</h2>

Over the last 10 years, $1.8 trillion of investor funds has flowed into equity ETFs. More fund managers recognize this trend and want to convert their mutual funds to ETFs. These conversions will help them simplify their investments, provide tax advantages and entice more investors to buy their funds.

Dimensional Fund Advisors is also planning to convert six stock mutual funds into ETFs, with the first four conversions set for June. With this new arrangement, Dimensional Fund Advisors will be able to reduce its management fee by 28%.

Foothill Capital Management followed Dimensional Fund Advisors lead and converted its Cannabis Growth Fund into an ETF.

<h2>Final Note</h2>

Both ETFs and mutual funds offer investors access to hundreds of holdings across different sectors of the economy in one fund.

More investors are piling cash into ETFs over mutual funds because of lower fees like expense ratios, tax advantages like avoiding high capital gains distributions and greater liquidity. As a result, more established investment firms including JPMorgan and Dimensional Fund Advisors are converting their mutual funds to ETFs to attract the next generation of investors.
