Investing with a conscience is moving beyond environmental friendliness and sustainability. These days, social justice is an increasingly prominent part of the equation.

New ETF From Adasina Social Capital Gets To Heart Of Social Justice Investing

Companies leading the effort to collect battery metals from the bottom of the ocean say seabed <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/mining">mining</a> is inevitable despite high-profile environmental concerns.
The battle is over the trillions of nodules littering the sea floor outside of the jurisdiction of any single nation. They contain manganese, nickel, cobalt and copper, all of which are either used in electric vehicle batteries, grid scale energy storage or other green technology like wind turbines and solar arrays.
Covering more than half of the total area of the world's oceans, the international area in question is governed by the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and its organizational arm, the International Seabed Authority.
The authority is debating rules for deep sea mining at a meeting in Jamaica scheduled to conclude Friday with a vote on a new secretary general who will oversee the body in a four-year term to start on Jan. 1. 
The contest is between a candidate seen as more friendly to conservationists and the incumbent who is considered more pro-mining.

Craig Shesky, chief financial officer of The Metals Company (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TMC#NASDAQ">TMC</a>), told Benzinga he is fairly agnostic about who wins.
"No matter who's at the helm we are at the point of a snowball rolling downhill," he said. "There's nothing to stop it at this point. This is now inevitable."
Privately held Impossible Metals&#8216; CEO Oliver Gunasekara voiced a similar opinion in an interview with Benzinga, saying whether or not there's a change of leadership, it won't affect his company.
<h1 class="wp-block-heading">Working Toward 2025 Deadline</h1>
Perhaps more important than the outcome of the election are the rules for seabed mining being hashed out behind the scenes at the authority's meeting in Jamaica. The body is aiming to have those finalized by 2025.
A minority of member nations have voiced some level of opposition to seabed mining in international waters, ranging from France, who wants the practice banned, to nations who have called for a precautionary pause.
Many critics of seabed mining want to hold off on the practice until the environment at the bottom of the ocean is better understood.
<h1 class="wp-block-heading">Risks to Seafloor Debated</h1>
While it makes sense to have regulations that mitigate potential negative impacts to seafloor life, such as sediment plumes, an outright ban on seafloor mining would be similar to opposing any form of nuclear power, Gunasekara said.
Conservation groups in recent years have eased their stance on nuclear power, as it holds the potential to provide non-carbon-producing baseload electricity to the grid to fill in the gaps when wind and solar farms aren't able to produce energy.
Shesky also compares the seabed mining debate to the one about nuclear energy, saying that people will realize seabed mining is better than the alternative on land, which can destroy large swaths of habitat, such as forests.
"We're not really mining," Shesky said. "You're picking up rocks off the seafloor."
<h1 class="wp-block-heading">National Politics </h1>
The political brouhaha between pro-seabed mining countries such as Norway, China and Japan and detractors such as Chile and France is "driven by the extreme NGOs," Gunasekara said.
Shesky suggests Chile and France are against deep sea mining to protect their domestic mining industries. Chile is the largest producer of copper in the world, and the economy of France's overseas territory of New Caledonia is heavily reliant on nickel mining.
"Of course they don't want to do it," Shesky said.
Shesky says there is no legal basis for a moratorium as the seabed authority has a legal mandate to move forward.&nbsp;

Why It's Important: Tesla regained the top spot as the most searched ticker for the first time since January. The company reported <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/earnings/24/07/39918390/tesla-q2-earnings-highlights-revenue-beat-eps-miss-robotaxi-update-2024-growth-rate-to-be-notably-l">second-quarter financials results</a> in July and saw a surge in its share price.
One of the bigger stories in this top 20 tickers list is a name that's not on it: GameStop Corp (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GME#NYSE">GME</a>), The company ranked just outside the list cutoff at 21 for July, which comes after ranking second in June and 7th overall in the first half of 2024.
Serve Robotics saw increased interest from investors thanks to <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/07/39972757/serve-robotics-stock-continues-to-soar-whats-going-on">an ownership stake</a> in the company from Nvidia. Serve and Zapp Electric Vehicles were the main newcomers to the top 10 as names not in the top 20 in 2024.
Meta Platforms rejoined the top 10 for the first time since February, a move that comes as the stock typically doesn't even rank among the top 20 most-searched tickers on Benzinga Pro monthly. The company could also be a top stock in August after reporting quarterly financial results on July 31 and seeing its stock soar.
CrowdStrike hit its highest ranking for the year at ninth place, but it wasn't for good reasons. The cybersecurity company was behind an update that <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/07/39861744/microsoft-outage-what-states-services-companies-saw-the-blue-screen-of-death">took down Windows products </a>worldwide and hurt several major sectors including financials and airlines.
For the honorable mention names, Super Micro Computer saw a significant fall after ranking in the top five of the six months tracks and falling to 19th.
Palantir lost some momentum falling to 16th place, after enjoying several higher rankings earlier in the year and ranking 10th overall for the first half of 2024.
Ranking just outside the top 20 are two names to watch in the coming months. Trump Media &amp; Technology Group (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DJT#NASDAQ">DJT</a>) ranked 23rd. The stock has been volatile related to events around former President Donald Trump. With the 2024 election nearly three months away, the stock could gain increased attention.
The iShares Russell 2000 ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/IWM#NYSE">IWM</a>) ranked 22nd and just outside the top 20. The small-cap ETF could be gaining popularity with some level of rotation by investors from large-cap stocks into small-cap stocks. With a potential rate cut by the Federal Reserve in September, small cap stocks could be focus in the months ahead.

Cencora, Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/COR#NYSE">COR</a>) today announced that it has agreed to repurchase shares of its common stock from Walgreens Boots Alliance Holdings LLC in the amount of approximately $250 million in concurrence with Walgreens Boots Alliance's sale of Cencora shares pursuant to Rule 144 under the Securities Act of 1933, as amended.
Cencora intends to repurchase shares from Walgreens Boots Alliance at the price per share equal to the price in the Rule 144 sale. The concurrent share repurchase will be made under Cencora's share repurchase program and the repurchased shares will be held in treasury.

Walgreens Boots Alliance, Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/WBA#NASDAQ">WBA</a>) today announced that it has sold all of its remaining unencumbered shares of Cencora, Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/COR#NYSE">COR</a>) common stock pursuant to Rule 144 for proceeds of $818 million and, subject to the completion of the Rule 144 sale, a concurrent share repurchase by Cencora in the amount of $250 million.
Walgreens Boots Alliance's ownership of Cencora's common stock has decreased from approximately 12 percent to approximately 10 percent.
Proceeds to Walgreens Boots Alliance will be used primarily for debt paydown and general corporate purposes, as the company continues to build out a more capital-efficient health services strategy rooted in its retail pharmacy footprint.
The sale has no impact to the long-term partnership between the two companies. Walgreens Boots Alliance remains fully committed to the strategic, mutually beneficial relationship with Cencora, which has been a strong and trusted partner since 2013. Chief Operating Officer, International of Walgreens Boots Alliance, Ornella Barra, will continue to serve on Cencora's Board of Directors.

For the year, we now expect U.S. rig count to be down 15%. This represents a greater decline compared with our initial expectation of a 5% decrease. However, our international footprint, the Variperm acquisition, and benefits from our "beat-the-market" strategy should mitigate this U.S. industry softness. Therefore, we are maintaining the bottom end of our guidance, but adjusting down the top end by $10 million. Our full year 2024 adjusted EBITDA guidance is now $100 to $110 million."

The Details: Clorox reported quarterly earnings of $1.82 per share which beat the analyst consensus estimate of $1.56 by 16.67%. Quarterly sales clocked in at $1.903 billion, missing the analyst consensus estimate by 2.46% and representing a 5.75% decrease from the same period last year. 
Clorox said the net sales decreased was driven largely by the impacts of the Argentina divestiture, unfavorable price mix and lower volume.
