Kirin is the second largest brewer by value in Japan, with an estimated 35.7% volume share in beer and beer-like category as of 2022. It holds a top share in happoshu (low-malt beer) and new genre (no-malt beer) categories. Apart from beer, it also operates a wide range of acholic and soft beverage products in Japan. It made several acquisitions including Lion Nathan and National Foods in Oceania, the Brazilian brewer Schincariol, and Myanmar Brewery, but has divested most of the acquired businesses except Lion. It has shifted focus back to the domestic brewery after a painful exit from Brazil in 2017 and identified craft beer and wellness as new growth drivers. Overseas business represents about 40% of group's sales. It also owns a 48.6% stake in the largest Filipino brewer San Miguel.

(OTC: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/heiny#OTC">HEINY</a>) confirms that it is currently in discussions with Kirin Holdings Company, Limited regarding a potential transaction in respect of Brasil Kirin Holding S.A. Kirin Holdings Co (OTC: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/knbwy#OTC">KNBWY</a>) posted a wider net loss for the fiscal first quarter ended March.

Kirin Holdings posted a quarterly net loss of Y3.03 billion, versus a year-ago loss of Y2.11 billion. Kirin's sales rose 1.7% to Y497.29 billion from Y488.92 billion. 

Kirin Holdings' operating profit declined 23.3% Y25.31 billion from Y32.99 billion.

Kirin Holdings shares closed at $12.49 yesterday.

Japan's Kirin Holdings Co (OTC: KNBWY) reported a 35% drop in its net profit for the business year ended December 31.

Kirin's net profit for the period declined to Y7.41 billion, from a year-ago profit of Y11.39 billion. Its sales dropped 4.9% to Y2.072 trillion from Y2.178 trillion. Its operating profit fell 5.8% to Y142.86 billion from Y151.61 billion. 

For this fiscal year, Kirin projects net profit to surge more than six-fold to Y48 billion. It also expects a 13% surge in operating profit. Kirin projects a 7.6% rise in its sales.

Kirin shares closed at $12.23 yesterday.

Last year, <a href="https://tilray.gcs-web.com/news-releases/news-release-details/tilray-brands-announces-agreement-acquire-eight-beer-beverage">the company bought</a> eight craft beer brands from mega-distributor Anheuser-Busch (NYSE:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/bud-stock-quote/">BUD</a>), including Shock Top and HiBall Energy. Financial news generally took the move one of two ways, neither of which is particularly positive. First, some assumed it was an admission of defeat for Tilray in terms of cannabis markets. Alternately, others saw it as a needless push toward diversification that would ultimately impact their core cannabis focus.



I argue that there&rsquo;s more to the story. Lacking a nationally legal cannabis infrastructure in the states, many competitors can&rsquo;t actively build a network in most states that includes marketing, distribution, legal compliance, marketing, and more &ndash; everything involved in getting vice products to market. Tilray, in effect, just bought those operational value chain drivers from one of the largest companies experienced in pushing products to customers. As the fifth-largest craft beer distributor after the move, Tilray is expanding its revenue opportunity and effectively subsidizing its penetration into areas otherwise unfriendly to its cannabis concept through craft beer sales.

On a <a href="https://equityset.com/company/deo?tag=stock-analysis">year-over-year basis</a>, the company&rsquo;s sales climbed more than 10%, with earnings per share jumping 17.62%. Despite the strong showing, per-share pricing is down nearly 13% over the past year and even trades below pre-pandemic levels. Diageo might seem down-and-out but, with a little luck of the Irish, this undervalued craft beer stock could surge soon.

For this fiscal year, Kirin projects net profit to surge more than six-fold to Y48 billion. It also expects a 13% surge in operating profit. Kirin projects a 7.6% rise in its sales.
