Since June 2024, BP suspended or paused 30 projects to concentrate on its most lucrative initiatives, according to a report from <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-01-16/bp-eliminates-thousands-of-jobs-in-cost-cutting-effort-ceo-says?srnd=phx-industries-energy&amp;sref=TBDibEcD">Bloomberg</a>.

Earlier this week, BP said production in its fiscal fourth quarter is expected to be <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/01/42971311/bp-warns-of-lower-oil-gas-output-in-fourth-quarter-update">lower than in the third quarter</a>. 
For the fourth quarter, the company anticipates a decline in upstream production compared to the previous quarter, with reductions in both oil and gas &amp; low-carbon energy output.
In the gas and low-carbon energy segment, realizations are expected to improve by $0.1 to $0.2 billion, driven by fluctuations in non-Henry Hub natural gas prices.
In the oil production and operations sector, BP predicts a negative impact on realizations of $0.2 billion to $0.4 billion, primarily due to price lags, especially in the Gulf of Mexico and UAE.
The company&#8217;s operating revenues for the third quarter came in at $47.254 billion, missing the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/earnings/24/10/41598840/bp-stock-drops-as-q3-revenue-misses-mark-production-declines-debt-rises">consensus of $52.557 billion</a>.

Super Micro Computer Shares Are On The Rise: What's Going On?

Keefe, Bruyette &amp; Woods analyst Aidan Hall raised the price forecast on BlackRock, Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BLK#NYSE">BLK</a>) to $1,180 from $1,160 <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/blk/analyst-ratings" rel="noreferrer noopener">while maintaining an Outperform rating</a>.
On Wednesday, the investment giant&nbsp;reported fourth-quarter results, with revenue of&nbsp;$5.68 billion, beating the consensus of&nbsp;$5.53 billion and adjusted EPS of $11.93,&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com//node/42997625" rel="noreferrer noopener">surpassing the consensus of&nbsp;$11.21</a>.
The analyst writes that BLK shares responded favorably to the results, surpassing both peers and the broader market by more than 300 basis points.
BlackRock is still in the early phases of its transformation, with management&#8217;s commentary remaining constructive on growth initiatives for 2025, adds the analyst.
Notably, Hall writes that management highlighted ongoing initiatives to meet the growing demand for alternative investments in the retail channel.
These include a managed model partnership with Partners Group, offering a single-subscription document with three risk profiles and a mix of BlackRock and Partners Group funds, adds the analyst.
Also, the analyst writes that management expects core G&amp;A growth in the mid-to-high single digits for 2025, including expenses related to GIP and Preqin.
Hall now anticipates $152.5 million in G&amp;A expenses from GIP and Preqin and expects core G&amp;A to grow 7.9% in 2025, excluding HPS, which the analyst model to close by June 30.
Management also expects continued operating margin expansion, driven by a more variable expense base, with the analyst projecting an estimated 80bps margin improvement to 45.3% in 2025.
Consequently, the analyst slightly adjusted EPS estimates to $10.94 (from $10.92) for first-quarter FY25, $47.23 (from $46.94) for 2025 and $53.62 (from $53.89) for 2026.
The revisions reflect higher operating expenses, primarily from compensation and benefits, as well as amortization of intangibles, partially offset by higher total revenue, says the analyst.

The stock reaction reflects management&#8217;s outlook reassuring continued improvement in ROTCE in the coming years, supported by the buyback, decline in expense from the current run rate and positive operating leverage through 2026, and unchanged revenue growth profile even with the expense initiatives, which Ramsden estimates to grow roughly 4% in 2025 and 2026.
While management cut its ROTCE target by 100bps to 10%-11%, Ramsden noted that the market was not expecting Citi to reach the high end of its target by 2026. Management reiterated that return improvements will continue into 2027 and beyond. Ramsden now expects Citi to generate ROTCEs of 8.7% in 2025 and 10.5% in 2026.
Keefe, Bruyette &amp; Woods: It was a solid quarter for Citi with a revenue beat driven by net interest income (NII), which included more significant than expected trading NII results. The stock was strong following the results, outperforming the KBW Nasdaq Bank Index (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BKX#NASDAQ">BKX</a>) by 240bps, as the 2025 guidance was better than feared. Management did lower its 2026 ROTCE outlook from 11% to a range of 10% to 11% owing to higher franchise investments; however, the consensus was below the low point of this range, and it may provide a more visible glide path.
Although Citi&#8217;s stock has been historically cheap, Konrad noted that near-term catalysts make the stock more attractive. First, Citi is well positioned with its franchise, and recent management changes position the firm to capture revenue opportunities in investment banking and trading, given expectations for improved market conditions following the election, particularly in M&amp;A, ECM, and FICC trading. Second, decreasing regulations could ease some control and procedure risks for Citi and provide meaningful capital relief.
Importantly, Konrad expects buybacks to accelerate, with a potential further acceleration should Basel III Endgame be meaningfully watered down. Given Citi&#8217;s Below-Tangible Book Value (TBV)&nbsp;valuation, this could be a strong catalyst for Citi.
The price target represents 9.8 times Konrad&#8217;s 2026E EPS. The analyst noted his price target is sensitive to changes in the macro environment, including interest rates, credit quality, and company-specific operations.
Truist: Citi lowers its 2026 ROTCE target to 10%-11% and guides 2025 revenues +3%-4% YoY to $83.5 billion-84.5 billion, ahead of consensus at $83.3 billion. Expenses for 2025 are guided down to &#8220;slightly lower than ~$53.8 billion&#8221; versus consensus at $53.4 billion. 
Citi also announced a new $20 billion share repurchase authorization, and its $2.1 billion buyback in the fourth quarter of 2024 was ahead of consensus expectations. The fourth-quarter EPS of $1.34 was beat on the quarter versus the $1.23 consensus. 
The price target is based on 9.1 times McDonald&#8217;s 2026E EPS estimate of $9.30, which assumes a below-peer multiple and reflects Citi&#8217;s inconsistent past execution on prior transformation initiatives and the need to build credibility with the Street.

In a court filing on Monday, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) challenged Vertex Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/VRTX#NASDAQ">VRTX</a>), defending its stance that the company&#8217;s proposed fertility services program would breach anti-kickback laws. The program is tied to Vertex&#8217;s gene-editing therapy Casgevy for sickle cell disease and transfusion-dependent beta-thalassemia.
Vertex&nbsp;<a href="https://assets.bwbx.io/documents/users/iqjWHBFdfxIU/rnMCje2Jspgw/v0" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">sued</a>&nbsp;the HHS in July 2024.

The gene-editing treatment requires high-dose chemotherapy to clear stem cells from the bone marrow, often causing severe side effects, including infertility. To support patients, Vertex provides financial assistance for fertility preservation options like freezing eggs, embryos or reproductive tissues.
Last year, the HHS Office of Inspector General (OIG) confirmed its decision that it could not issue a favorable advisory opinion. According to OIG, the program implicates the anti-kickback statute, poses more than a low risk of fraud and abuse, and does not promote access to gene therapy care.

The biotech challenged this allegation, "the Fertility Preservation Program would not improperly skew medical decision-making or provide an improper inducement to prescribe," nor would it persuade patients to "undergo treatment with Casgevy in exchange for the Fertility Preservation Program."
Endpoints <a target="_blank" href="https://endpts.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/show_temp.pdf" rel="noreferrer noopener">published</a> a copy of the lawsuit online Wednesday.
HHS laid out several arguments, claiming Vertex's attempts to &#8220;twist the statute's meaning&#8221; and that the biotech is "grasping at straws&#8230;"
"The point is that Vertex's offer of fertility treatment in exchange for purchasing its product, and only its product, is meant to induce patients to choose that product when they otherwise might not. That is a quintessential quid pro quo," the HHS said.
"Vertex is not offering $70,000 to any sickle cell patient who undergoes myeloablative conditioning to prepare for treatment, regardless whether that patient elects to purchase Vertex's product, or its competitor's similar gene-therapy product, or a bone- and blood-marrow transplant," the HHS wrote. "Vertex is only offering payments on behalf of patients who select its own product."
&#8220;Vertex then posits that its $70,000 offer will not interfere with or skew clinical decisionmaking because fertility services "benefit a patient's quality of life," HHS noted.
&#8220;This is nonsensical. Many offers of remuneration would enhance patient quality of life, but that doesn't render them lawful," the HHS added.
VRTX Price Action: Vertex stock is down 1.41% at $418.29 at publication Thursday.
