In a bid to catch up with its peers,&nbsp;Mahindra and Mahindra&#39;s (OTC: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/mahmf#OTC">MAHMF</a>) chief said the Indian automotive giant&nbsp;would explore sourcing more components from other companies to boost its electric vehicle (EV) portfolio.
What Happened: In an interview with <a href="https://www.reuters.com/markets/deals/indias-mahindra-explore-more-partnerships-ev-parts-ceo-2022-05-23/" style="text-decoration-line:none">Reuters</a> at Davos,&nbsp;Mahindra Group&#39;s CEO Anish Shah, said the company had earlier focused on developing EV components in-house but is now looking otherwise to achieve faster growth in the segment.
This came after the company partnered with Volkswagen (OTC: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/vwagy#OTC">VWAGY</a>) last week to explore equipping its electric cars with motors, battery system components, and cells made by the German automaker.
&quot;The world is moving towards a lot more partnerships. It&#39;s better to source the best that&#39;s out there rather than do everything ourselves,&quot; Shah told Reuters at the World Economic Forum summit at Davos.
&quot;It&#39;s VW (Volkswagen) at this stage, and as we see similar strengths in other areas, we are open to looking at various components that we would bring in, and do what we are very good at in-house as well,&quot; Shah added.
Why It Matters: Electric Vehicles in India have been on a rising trend, with the overall number of vehicles witnessing over a <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/22/04/26562097/ahead-of-planned-tesla-entry-indians-are-buying-more-electric-vehicles-than-ever" style="text-decoration-line:none">three-fold jump</a> in the last fiscal year.
Many companies from around the world, such as Fisker Inc (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/fsr#NYSE">FSR</a>) and Triton EV, are also eyeing to penetrate one of the largest auto markets. Recently, Tesla Inc (NASDAQ: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/tsla#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>) placed its <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/22/05/27041682/teslas-india-foray-takes-a-back-seat-as-elon-musk-shifts-focus-to-apac-region" style="text-decoration-line:none">plans on hold </a>after considering India as an expansion&nbsp;option for a long time and lobbying the government to lower import duties on its products.
Currently,&nbsp;Tata Motors (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ttm#NYSE">TTM</a>)-made&nbsp;<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/22/04/26562097/ahead-of-planned-tesla-entry-indians-are-buying-more-electric-vehicles-than-ever" style="text-decoration-line:none">EVs lead the segment</a>&nbsp;in India, with a market share of 85.37%.

Tesla Inc (NASDAQ: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/tsla#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>) saw new registrations fall 24% year-over-year&nbsp;in April in Germany, while&nbsp;Volkswagen AG&rsquo;s (OTC: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/vwagy#OTC">VWAGY</a>) secured a 108.4% rise.
What Happened: Tesla new registrations in Germany totaled 484 in April, while in the preceding month the tally was at 3,703 &mdash; a fall of 86.93%,&nbsp;according to data released by the country&#39;s federal motor transport authority, Das Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt.
Comparatively, Volkswagen saw registrations totaled 43,230 in April 2021; in March the number was 56,550, indicating&nbsp;a month-over-month fall of 23.5%.&nbsp;The automaker secured the largest share of new registrations in April at 18.8%.
Notably, all German brands saw a YoY rise in registrations. Stellantis N.V.&rsquo;s (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/stla#NYSE">STLA</a>) Opel and Mercedes, a marque owned by Daimler AG (OTC: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ddaif#OTC">DDAIF</a>) (OTC: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/dmlry#OTC">DMLRY</a>), saw registrations rise 174.6% and 158.5% respectively.
Other brands that saw registrations rise include Nissan Motor Co, Ltd (OTC: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/nsany#OTC">NSANY</a>), Hyundai Motor Company (OTC: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/hymtf#OTC">HYMTF</a>), and Mahindra &amp; Mahindra Limited (OTC: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/mahmf#OTC">MAHMF</a>)=owned Ssangyong, which grew 146.1%, 135%, and 106.9% respectively.&nbsp;

Why It Matters: In April, it was reported that the Elon Musk-led company&rsquo;s first-quarter German <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/21/04/20532752/tesla-recorded-83-rise-in-q1-registrations-in-germany-but-another-automaker-is-growing-much-faster" style="text-decoration-line:none">registrations rose 83% YoY</a>, but it was bested by Daimler&rsquo;s Smart, whose registrations soared 313.8% in the same period.
In April, Smart registered 2,271 vehicles, while in March that number was 2,592 vehicles &mdash;&nbsp;a fall of 12.38%.

Meanwhile, Tesla&rsquo;s share of <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/21/04/20675912/tesla-china-registrations-tripled-yoy-in-march-doubled-sequentially-cain-data" style="text-decoration-line:none">new registrations in China continues to grow.</a> 34,635 new registrations were recorded in March of the company&rsquo;s vehicles, compared with 18,155 registrations in February.&nbsp;
Price Action: Tesla shares closed 1.1% lower at $663.54 in Thursday&rsquo;s regular session and gained 0.22% in the after-hours trading. On the same day, Volkswagen OTC shares closed 0.32% higher at $31.42.

Ford Motor Company (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/f#NYSE">F</a>) has&nbsp;<a href="https://media.ford.com/content/fordmedia/fna/us/en/news/2020/04/13/ford-to-produce-respirators-masks-covid-19.html">announced</a> it is helping Thermo Fisher to expand production of COVID-19 rapid testing collection kits.
<h3>What Happened</h3>
On Monday, Ford released a statement highlighting the measures it was taking along with various partners in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. The company said it was &ldquo;lending&rdquo; its manufacturing support to help Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/tmo#NYSE">TMO</a>) expand COVID-19 test collection kits.
Jim Baumbick, vice president Ford Enterprise Product Line Management, said, &ldquo;We knew that to play our part helping combat coronavirus, we had to go like hell and join forces with experts like 3M to expand production of urgently needed medical equipment and supplies.&rdquo;
Working with 3M Co. (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/mmm#NYSE">MMM</a>) on design and testing, Ford has developed a new powered air-purifying respirator (PAPR). The production of this respirator will start on Tuesday at Ford&rsquo;s Vreeland site near Flat Rock, Michigan. Ford can make 100,000 of these respirators.
In collaboration with airbag manufacturer&nbsp;Joyson Safety Systems, a subsidiary of the Chinese firm Ningbo Joyson Electronic Corp, Ford is making reusable gowns. These gowns are made with airbag material. The go-fast project is expected to reach a scale of 75,000 gowns a week by Sunday and scale up to 100,000 gowns by the week of April 19. It is expected that by July 4, 1.3 million gowns will have been cut and sewn.
Additionally, Ford is making face masks for internal use globally and is striving to get these certified for medical use. Facemask production began earlier in the week.&nbsp;
<h3>Why It Matters</h3>
The involvement of Ford would allow Thermo Fisher to treble the number of COVID-19 test collection kits that they can deliver each week beginning April 20.&nbsp;
Washable gowns made by Ford and its partner are vital&nbsp;because each gown can be washed up to 50 times and reused. More than 5,000 gowns have already been delivered to the Beaumont Health in Metro Detroit.&nbsp;
Guidelines from the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are pushing the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/government/20/04/15773766/cdc-guidelines-pushes-face-mask-sales-higher-etsy-ceo-says-encourages-to-support-small-businesses">sale and demand</a> for facemasks in the country.
Ford is also involved in the production of full-face shields for medical workers. As of Monday, the company had manufactured more than 3 million face shields in partnership with the Indian company Mahindra &amp; Mahindra Limited (OTC: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/mahmf#OTC">MAHMF</a>) in India, as well as in Canada and Thailand.

Ford shares traded 2.71% higher at $5.30 in the pre-market session on Tuesday. The shares had closed the regular session 3.91% lower at $5.16.

Ford Partners With Thermo Fisher And Other Manufacturers To Fight COVID-19

Mahindra &amp; Mahindra Ltd (OTC: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/mahmf#OTC">MAHMF</a>) posted a 22% surge in its vehicle sales in August.

Mahindra &amp; Mahindra sold 45,836 vehicles in the month. Local sales surged 20% to 42,826, while exports jumped 56% to 3,010 units.

India's Mahindra &amp; Mahindra Ltd (OTC: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/mahmf#OTC">MAHMF</a>) reported a 20% rise in its fiscal first-quarter net profit.

Its quarterly net profit surged to 7.26 billion rupees ($131.89 million), from 6.05 billion rupees, in the year-ago period. 

Its sales jumped 40% to 92.48 billion rupees. However, analysts were expecting a net profit of 5.98 billion rupees on sales of 90.87 billion rupees. 

Mahindra &amp; Mahindra shares closed at $12.55 yesterday.

Mahindra & Mahindra FQ1 Net Profit Up 20%

Shares of Mosaic Company (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/mos#NYSE">MOS</a>) fell about 3% after the company announced its plans to cut its quarterly finished phosphate production by around 10%. Mosaic will reduce phosphate production by 250,000 tonnes over the next three months. The company continues to project strong demand in 2012 for both potash and phosphate.

Shares of Citigroup Inc (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/c#NYSE">C</a>) gained about 1.2% after the company announced its plans to sell its Belgian consumer business to French bank Credit Mutuel Nord Europe. 

Shares of W. P. Carey &amp; Co LLC (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/wpc#NYSE">WPC</a>) rose about 0.05% after the company closed on a $450 million unsecured revolving credit facility.

India's Mahindra &amp; Mahindra Ltd (OTC: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/mahmf#OTC">MAHMF</a>) announced its plans to lift prices of its XUV500 sport-utility vehicle by 3% to 4%. Mahindra &amp; Mahindra will raise prices by INR30,000 to INR55,000 at showrooms in New Delhi from January 1.
