Investors May Find Gains In European Luxury

Moncler SpA

HC Wainwright &amp; Co. analyst Raghuram Selvaraju upgraded Aclaris Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ACRS#NASDAQ">ACRS</a>) from Neutral to Buy and a <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/ACRS/analyst-ratings" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">price target of $20</a>. The stock gained after the rerating.
In a press release last month, Aclaris announced that it had entered into an exclusive license agreement with privately held Biosion, Inc. for worldwide rights (excluding Greater China) to BSI-045B, a potential best-in-class, clinical-stage, novel anti-TSLP monoclonal antibody, and BSI-502, a potential best-in-class, preclinical-stage, novel bispecific antibody directed against both TSLP and IL4R.
Despite recent advances in anti-TSLP and anti-IL4R therapies, there remains a substantial unmet need for more effective and convenient treatment options.

In a completed Phase 2a, single-arm, proof-of-concept trial conducted in the U.S. in 22 patients with moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis, BSI-045B was observed to have a pharmacodynamic, safety, and efficacy profile that could position it as a potential best-in-class therapy.
BSI-045B is also being advanced in multiple Phase 2 studies in China by Biosion&#8217;s regional partner, targeting severe asthma and chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps, accelerating the potential to show proof-of-concept across additional indications.
Selvaraju expects Aclaris to initiate multiple mid-stage clinical studies next year in the U.S. due to potential positive results from the Chinese trials. 
This should pave the way for registration programs in the coming years. From Selvaraju&#8217;s vantage point, BSI-045B could generate billions of dollars in sales across solely the U.S. and European Union markets in only chronic asthma and atopic dermatitis indications.
This candidate could reach the U.S. market in 2029 to treat chronic asthma and in 2030 for treating AD, with potential peak annual sales of roughly $9.8 billion. 
Selvaraju&#8217;s forecasts include pricing in the $30K range in the U.S. and the $10K range in Europe, roughly in line with net pricing for Dupixent (dupilumab), the most commercially successful of the currently-marketed anti-IL-4R monoclonal antibodies with estimated 2024 sales totaling roughly 13 billion euros. 
Selvaraju noted that an earlier-generation monoclonal antibody, the anti-IgE agent Xolair (omalizumab), generated sales approaching $4 billion in 2023. Selvaraju ascribed a 30% probability of approval to BSI-045B in chronic asthma and a 20% probability of approval to this candidate in AD.
Selvaraju projected fourth-quarter revenue of $2.9 million and EPS of $(0.10).
Price Action: ACRS stock is up 8% at $2.94 at last check Monday.

Fed chair Powell dropped a big lump of coal in the market&#8217;s stocking last week as he reigned in the Fed&#8217;s rate cut projections for 2025. While the Fed cut its key benchmark rate by the expected 25 basis points, Powell tempered expectations on future rate cuts based on sticky inflation data and the continued robust spending from American consumers.
The Fed's so-called ‘dot plot,' which anticipates the frequency and strength of future rate activity, now indicates only two rate cuts in 2025, with a Fed funds rate at 3.75% &#8211; 4.00% by the end of next December.
Markets did not take kindly to the news, and major indices closed starkly lower after being flat for most of the day. Nasdaq led the losers, with the tech-heavy index dropping more than 3.5%.
After hours, AI-darling Micron Technology added to the pain with a significant earnings miss, and the stock had its <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/24/12/42599089/us-stocks-edge-up-micron-suffers-worst-day-since-march-2020-bond-yields-surge-whats-driving-markets-thursday?adt_ei=%7B%7Bemail%7D%7D&amp;he=%7B%7Bemail%7D%7D">worst performance since March 2020</a> the following day. Add in a close-call government shutdown and low holiday trading volume, and it was the perfect storm for some year-end volatility. And it won&#8217;t stop there.
A cautious Fed means cautious investors and a change in strategy is necessary for 2025.

Google's recent quantum computing breakthrough unveiled a chip capable of speeds beyond <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/tech/24/12/42397333/google-quantum-ais-new-willow-chip-can-do-in-minutes-that-supercomputers-would-take-10-septillion-years?adt_ei=%7B%7Bemail%7D%7D&amp;he=%7B%7Bemail%7D%7D">any in the known universe</a>, which could become an investment theme in 2025 (more on that later). Additionally, Waymo is one of the most significant success stories related to autonomous driving to date. The company <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/tech/24/12/42523474/alphabets-waymo-expands-global-reach-with-tokyo-robotaxi-testing-eyes-left-hand-traffic-challenges?adt_ei=%7B%7Bemail%7D%7D&amp;he=%7B%7Bemail%7D%7D">recently announced</a> a new service in Tokyo, its first international city, and recent testing data continues to show impressive <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/06/39394686/alphabet-unit-waymo-claims-lower-crash-rate-despite-regulator-probes-into-risky-driving-behavior-thi?adt_ei=%7B%7Bemail%7D%7D&amp;he=%7B%7Bemail%7D%7D">safety statistics</a>. It's been a tumultuous year for Uber. The company finally posted a positive annual net income figure in 2023, and the stock rallied from $25 to $80 between December 2022 and February 2024. But the rally stalled there, and the stock bounced between $60 and $80 for most of the last nine months.

We think this recent drawdown is overdone, and the stock could be poised for a rally in 2025. Despite the proliferation of Waymo, Uber is still the dominant force in rideshare, and its ride-hailing market share is actually expanding compared to its biggest rival, Lyft. From a technical standpoint, the stock is oversold according to the Relative Strength Index (RSI) and the 50-day moving average is still hovering above the 200-day MA. As long as the 50-day stays above the 200-day, UBER shares might be an interesting buy at this level.

As mentioned above, if AI takes a breather over the next few months, one investment theme that could emerge is quantum computing. Quantum computing stocks have rallied hard in the last month, led by the aptly named Quantum Computing Inc. (NASDAQ: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/qubt#NASDAQ">QUBT</a>). However, Quantum Computing Inc. used to be known as Innovative Beverage Group, which raises some questions about its dedication to the industry. There may be better choices to take advantage of this trend, like Rigetti Computing Inc.

Bitcoin Price Decisively Back Below $100,000: What Is Going On?

Pfizer hosted a discussion with sell-side analysts to provide an update on one of the vaccine pipeline items &#8211; a second-generation Clostridioides difficile (C. diff) vaccine effort in Phase 2.
Goldman Sachs analyst Chris Shibutani maintained a Buy rating on Pfizer, Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/PFE#NYSE">PFE</a>) with a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/PFE/analyst-ratings" rel="noreferrer noopener">price target of $33</a>.
Shibutani recalled that Pfizer had reported negative results from a Phase 3 study for a first-generation asset in March 2022, where the primary endpoint was unmet.

Still, results did include signals from secondary endpoints that suggested reduced disease severity.
Pfizer has since been exploring updated formulations (reducing the 3-dose regimen to 2 doses), including a version in Phase 2. Immunogenicity data are anticipated in 2025, with potential for advancement into Phase 3 by the end of 2025.
For a potential Phase 3 study, Shibutani noted the objective would be to discern the potential to reduce the severity of a C. diff infection (CDI) instead of aiming to reduce the risk and prevention of disease.
Pfizer estimates ~500k infections annually in the U.S., and no vaccine options currently available. Acknowledging that there is an unmet need The analyst acknowledged that there is an unmet need and said the data thus far suggests a potential basis for a path forward for the program in the context of comments from R&amp;D leadership during the discussion Shibutani hosted with investors.
The emphasis on the forward will be on programs with the most significant potential for economic returns. The analyst expects that investor enthusiasm will likely remain relatively subdued, especially in the context of uncertainties deriving from health policy dynamics relating to vaccines, that are an overhang to sentiment.
Shibutani does not currently include revenue estimates for a C. diff vaccine in his model and looks to monitor data updates and decisions regarding plans for this program to guide his forecasts in the future.
Separately, the analyst flagged Pfizer management&#8217;s mention of the fourth generation 25-valent pneumococcal vaccine (PCV), which management affirms continues to progress in Phase 2.
Shibutani recalled that Pfizer had previously commented that the immunogenicity data from Phase 1 were encouraging, as highlighted by the improved immunogenicity observed for serotype 3.
Pfizer is currently in a Phase 2 proof-of-concept study for its second-generation Clostridioides difficile (C. diff) vaccine, PF-07831694. This vaccine targets C. diff toxins A and B, which cause Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI).&nbsp;&nbsp;
Their goal for the second generation is to build off the 1st generation&#8217;s efficacy and duration by developing a more potent, more durable formulation, allowing for a 2-dose regiment (instead of 3-dose), resulting in higher and faster series completion.
After evaluating adjuvants in formulation for their next-generation candidates, Pfizer noted they can increase the strength or magnitude of the immune response, potentially resulting in lower doses.
Pfizer advanced 1 of the three updated 2nd-generation candidates to Phase 2 based on Phase 1/2 safety and immunogenicity data.
The Phase 2 trial endpoints will evaluate the immunogenicity and safety of the 2-dose regimen. Trial data is expected in 2025, with a potential Phase 3 start in late 2025, pending positive results.
Pfizer in Phase 2 is the furthest along of the C. diff vaccine assets. Idorsia Pharmaceuticals initiated Phase 1 for their competing C. diff asset in July. Vaxxilon and Matrivax Research &amp; Development Corporation both have preclinical assets. GSK Plc&#8217;s (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GSK#NYSE">GSK</a>) CDI vaccine completed a Phase 1 trial in 2022 but is no longer listed as a pipeline asset.&nbsp;&nbsp;
Pfizer&nbsp;stock has dropped over 11.5% year-to-date. Investors can gain exposure to the stock through SPDR S&amp;P 500 (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SPY#NYSE">SPY</a>) and Vanguard S&amp;P 500 ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/VOO#NYSE">VOO</a>).

Pfizer's Progress on C. diff Vaccine and Pneumococcal Shot Wins Analyst Conviction

Tech stocks began Christmas week with positive momentum, as the Nasdaq 100 rose 0.4% on Monday, building on a 0.7% gain from Friday. The index has now recovered nearly half of the losses sustained following the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/federal-reserve">Federal Reserve's recent policy meeting.</a>
Semiconductors stood out as the top-performing sector:

<li>iShares Semiconductor ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SOXX#NYSE">SOXX</a>) jumping 2.3%.</li>
<li>Broadcom Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AVGO#NASDAQ">AVGO</a>), up 4.7%</li>
<li>Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AMD#NASDAQ">AMD</a>), which surged 4.9%.</li>
</ul>
Meanwhile, other major indices showed minimal movement in what appeared to be a session marked by low trading volumes.
Consumer staples emerged as the weakest sector, with notable declines in major retailers. Dollar General Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DG#NYSE">DG</a>) dropped 3.3%, while Walmart Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/WMT#NYSE">WMT</a>) shed 2.8%. 
In economic news, U.S. consumer confidence fell sharply in December, with the index dropping 8.1 points to 104.7 amid worsening expectations in future economic conditions.
The U.S. dollar index edged higher, mirroring a further surge in Treasury yields. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note rose 4 basis points to 4.57%, approaching its highest closing level since late May.
In commodities, gold slipped 0.4%, set to break a two-session winning streak, while oil prices declined 1%.
In the cryptocurrency market, Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) fell 1.7% to around $93,000, eyeing its fifth loss in the past six sessions.
Shares of MicroStrategy Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MSTR#NASDAQ">MSTR</a>) tumbled over 4% in their first trading session after the company's inclusion in the Nasdaq 100 index.

The House Ethics Committee's report found former Rep. <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/matt-gaetz" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Matt Gaetz</a> (R), who <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/legal/24/11/41956594/matt-gaetz-is-trumps-attorney-general-pick-would-be-top-cop-is-under-house-ethics-investigation" target="_blank" rel="noopener">was initially picked</a> by President-elect Donald Trump to be Attorney General, had allegedly paid tens of thousands of dollars to women, including a 17-year-old girl, for sex or drugs, according to the report, obtained by CNN.
The bombshell document, released Monday, <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2024/12/23/politics/matt-gaetz-house-ethics-report/index.html">alleges</a> that Gaetz had, on at least 20 occasions, violated Florida state laws, including the statutory rape law.
"The Committee determined there is substantial evidence that Representative Gaetz violated House Rules and other standards of conduct prohibiting prostitution, statutory rape, illicit drug use, impermissible gifts, special favors or privileges, and obstruction of Congress," the House Ethics panel investigators wrote. 
What Happened: Shortly after Trump chose Gaetz for the AG job and he<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/11/42024613/lawyer-ethics-committee-witness-says-she-saw-ag-nominee-gaetz-having-sex-with-a-minor" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">&nbsp;resigned from Congress</a>, rumors began to swirl about the Florida Rep's behavior and that he was under investigation by the House Ethics Committee for allegations of sexual misconduct, drug use and more.
Once Gaetz was no longer a member of Congress, the Ethics Committee ostensibly had no jurisdiction over him, which is why CNN referred to the committee making the report public to be a "rare step of releasing a report about a former member who resigned from Congress."
Gaetz, who refused to answer most committee questions alleging bias and leaks by the Ethics Committee, allegedly organized sexual encounters with women through the dating website SeekingArrangement.com, according to the report.

While a member of Congress, noted the report, Gaetz allegedly set up a pseudonymous email account from his House office to buy weed. The report claims he also helped a woman obtain a passport by using his chief of staff and falsely stating she was a constituent.

In terms of illicit drug use, the committee found that Gaetz allegedly used cocaine, ecstasy and cannabis between 2017 and 2019. Investigators also focused on a 2018 trip to the Bahamas – which they said "violated the House gift rule" – during which he "engaged in sexual activity" with multiple women, including one who described the trip itself as "the payment" for sex on the trip.
Gaetz denied allegations of statutory rape, characterizing his relationships as consensual dating, according to CNN. He explained the payments made via PayPal, Venmo, and CashApp as acts of generosity. The committee's report alleged that Gaetz's then-girlfriend often facilitated arrangements and participated in sexual encounters.
"In my single days, I often sent funds to women I dated &#8211; even some I never dated but who asked. I dated several of these women for years," Gaetz said in a statement on X last week after CNN reported that the committee had voted to release the report. "It's embarrassing, though not criminal, that I probably partied, womanized, drank and smoked more than I should have earlier in life. I live a different life now," Gaetz said.
