The profitability of Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>) could be severely impacted under the second Trump administration, with a potential 40% decrease.
What Happened: After a less than stellar Q4 sales performance and a 6% decrease in Tesla&#8217;s shares, JPMorgan analysts foresee more hurdles in the company&#8217;s path. 
The bank&#8217;s predictions are based on President elect Donald Trump&#8216;s plans to do away with EV tax credits and subsidies, which have made Tesla&#8217;s vehicles more affordable to consumers.
For the first time, Tesla reported a drop in annual vehicle sales, with approximately 1.79 million cars sold in 2024, a slight decrease from the record 1.8 million sales in 2023. 
This comes in the wake of a broader slowdown in the EV market as consumer preferences shift towards more economical hybrids.
JPMorgan analyst Ryan Brinkman expressed doubt about Tesla&#8217;s future prospects, stating that the company does not seem poised to dominate the global auto industry during the transition to electrification.

&#8220;Tesla does not appear to us on track to dominate the global auto industry amidst the electrification transition, which we view as only the starting point for present valuation,&#8221; Brinkman wrote in a note on Friday and as quoted <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-profit-could-shrink-under-trump-policies-jpmorgan-2025-1">by </a>Insider.
Brinkman also contradicted Elon Musk&#8217;s assertion that the removal of EV subsidies would be beneficial for Tesla. He projected that Tesla could lose around $3.2 billion due to regulatory changes under Trump, as government subsidies constitute a significant part of Tesla&#8217;s revenue.
&#8220;The slowing of deliveries, even ahead of a likely subsidy removal, we think has the potential to refocus investors on the deterioration in deliveries, revenue, gross profit, EBIT, EPS, and FCF estimates across all periods,&#8221; Brinkman added in the note. 
Despite these obstacles, Tesla shares experienced a slight recovery on Friday morning, rising by about 4%.

The deal? A tidy $6 billion up-front plus $5 billion for factory expansions. But in true Musk fashion, he pulled the plug at the last second – not out of arrogance but because Tesla's fortunes reversed practically overnight.

According to Ashlee Vance's biography Elon Musk: Tesla, SpaceX and the Quest for a Fantastic Future, Tesla's situation in early 2013 was dire. The company had just two weeks of cash left, preorders weren't turning into sales and word-of-mouth for the Model S wasn't great. Customers complained about design flaws like stubborn door handles and ugly seams in sun visors. To make matters worse, some Tesla executives had kept the full scope of the crisis from Musk.
When Musk found out, he fired key senior staff, promoted junior employees he believed had more drive and even called in Jerome Guillen, a Daimler executive, to revamp Tesla's repair centers. Musk and Page, already friends, hashed out terms that would keep Tesla alive. According to Vance, the agreement included several key points:

&#8220;He may be the most conflicted judge in New York State history. The accountant testified, with total corroboration, that the records were perfect &amp; totally above board. A legal expense was called, on the books, a legal expense. There was nothing else it could have been called. This was the so-called falsifying of records. I was hiding nothing, everything was out in the open for all to see. Every legal scholar of note said there IS NO CASE AGAINST ME,&#8221; Trump added in his post. 
In the same post, Trump referred to E. Jean Carroll as &#8220;the woman I never met&#8221;. Carroll&nbsp;was awarded nearly $100 million&nbsp;in damages after accusing Trump&nbsp;of sexual assault, a claim he has consistently denied.
&#8220;And then we have, also in New York, the woman I never met (celebrity photo lines from 30 years ago don't count!), who was awarded almost $100,000,000. A totally out of control, Trump hating judge, presided. The Biden/Harris DOJ was involved, directly or indirectly, in each of these cases. I won against Deranged Jack Smith!&#8221; Trump wrote in the Truth Social post. 
Why It Matters: This recent outburst from Trump on Truth Social marks another chapter in his ongoing legal battles. His criticism of the judges and Carroll comes at a time when he is facing significant legal challenges, including a criminal conviction and a hefty fine in a civil fraud case. 
His comments also highlight his continued denial of the sexual assault allegations made by Carroll. This situation underscores the tension between Trump and the judicial system, as well as his contentious relationship with his accusers.
