Pfizer, Cisco, Arch Capital And More: CNBC's 'Final Trades'

Australian iron ore mining giant Fortescue (OTC:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/FSUMF#OTC">FSUMF</a>) has hit the brakes on ambitious plans to transform into a green hydrogen leader. Management has announced an overhaul after a turbulent period that saw multiple<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/large-cap/24/06/39410710/fortescues-transition-to-green-energy-rocked-by-falling-iron-ore-prices-executive-turnover"> senior executive departures</a>.
While iron ore still generates most of the company's revenue, its founder and executive chairman, Andrew Forrest, has been steering towards green technologies. Still, a Fortescue spokesperson<a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-07-17/fortescue-cuts-700-jobs-and-appoints-new-chief-financial-officer"> told</a> Bloomberg that the company&#8217;s goal of producing 15 million tons of green hydrogen annually by 2030 has been put on hold owing to higher energy prices.
In a statement on Wednesday, Fortescue announced the job cuts as part of an effort to simplify the business structure. However, the company did not specify which departments would be affected by these layoffs.
&#8220;It&#8217;s a business that&#8217;s run hard around its decarbonization strategy. And whilst they haven&#8217;t pointed to which divisions are affected, that part of the business has continued to burn a lot of capital,&#8221; said Jarden Securities analyst Jon Bishop.

Green hydrogen, produced by splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen molecules using renewable energy, has yet to be commercially viable anywhere in the world. Fortescue currently produces a relatively small amount at a plant in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, and recently committed to three additional projects with an investment of around $750 million.
&#8220;Our vision for Fortescue has not changed,&#8221; Forrest said. &#8220;I truly believe in the power that green hydrogen will unlock for decarbonizing hard-to-abate industry,&#8221; he noted, adding that Fortescue would continue to focus on green electricity in the Pilbara region and North Africa and green hydrogen in places like Brazil and Norway.
Per AFR's<a href="https://www.afr.com/chanticleer/reality-bites-for-forrest-s-hydrogen-dream-investors-won-t-mind-20240717-p5juid"> report</a>, Forrest also noted that the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East have increased global energy prices, making large-scale green hydrogen production unviable. &#8220;In that environment, you&#8217;re not going to bring in major sources of green hydrogen, which relies on cheap energy prices,&#8221; he told the newspaper.
Despite these setbacks, Fortescue remains committed to its green energy projects. The company is advancing plans for an advanced manufacturing facility in Michigan and has established an office in New York to attract further investment into its green energy ventures.
In addition to the restructuring, Fortescue announced key executive appointments. Apple Paget, who has been acting as chief financial officer for the past 11 months, will assume the role permanently. Meanwhile, Shelley Robertson, who joined Fortescue nine months ago as chief corporate officer, has been appointed chief operating officer.

Fortescue Delays Green Hydrogen Ambitions, Reaffirms Commitment To Future Projects

American Express Company (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AXP#NYSE">AXP</a>) will release its second-quarter financial results, before the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/axp/earnings">opening bell on Friday, July 19.</a>
Analysts expect the New York-based company to report quarterly earnings at $3.25 per share, up from $2.89 per share in the year-ago period. American Express will post revenue of $16.59 billion, compared to $15.05 billion a year earlier, according to data from <a href="https://pro.benzinga.com/dashboard">Benzinga Pro</a>.
On July 16, Compass Point analyst David Rochester initiated coverage on American Express with a Neutral rating and announced a price target of&nbsp;$260.
With the recent buzz around American Express, some investors may be eyeing potential gains from the company's dividends, too. As of now, American Express offers an annual dividend yield of 1.12%. That&#8217;s a quarterly dividend amount of 70 cents per share ($2.80 a year).
So, how can investors exploit its dividend yield to pocket a regular $500 monthly?
To earn $500 per month or $6,000 annually from dividends alone, you would need an investment of approximately $535,664 or around 2,143 shares. For a more modest $100 per month or $1,200 per year, you would need $107,233 or around 429 shares.

To calculate: Divide the desired annual income ($6,000 or $1,200) by the dividend ($2.80 in this case). So, $6,000 / $2.80 = 2,143 ($500 per month), and $1,200 / $2.80 = 429 shares ($100 per month).
Note that dividend yield can change on a rolling basis, as the dividend payment and the stock price both fluctuate over time.
How that works: The dividend yield is computed by dividing the annual dividend payment by the stock&#8217;s current price.
For example, if a stock pays an annual dividend of $2 and is currently priced at $50, the dividend yield would be 4% ($2/$50). However, if the stock price increases to $60, the dividend yield drops to 3.33% ($2/$60). Conversely, if the stock price falls to $40, the dividend yield rises to 5% ($2/$40).
Similarly, changes in the dividend payment can impact the yield. If a company increases its dividend, the yield will also increase, provided the stock price stays the same. Conversely, if the dividend payment decreases, so will the yield.

Shares of Leslie&#8217;s, Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/LESL#NASDAQ">LESL</a>) fell sharply in today's pre-market trading after the company issued preliminary third-quarter financial results below estimates and <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/earnings/24/07/39826675/leslies-stock-is-underwater-after-hours-diving-into-the-details">cut its FY24 guidance</a>.
After the market close on Wednesday, Leslie's announced it now expects third-quarter revenue of approximately $570 million versus estimates of $615.407 million. The pool supply company anticipates third-quarter adjusted earnings of 32 cents to 33 cents per share versus <a href="https://pro.benzinga.com/dashboard">Benzinga Pro</a> estimates of 42 cents per share.
Leslie's also cut its full-year 2024 revenue guidance from a range of $1.141 billion to $1.47 billion to a new range of $1321 billion to $1.347 billion. The company slashed its adjusted earnings forecast from a range of 25 cents to 33 cents per share to a new range of 3 cents to 9 cents per share.
Leslie&#8217;s shares dipped 22.6% to $3.16 in the pre-market trading session.

Ford Motor Company today announced plans to assemble F-Series Super Duty pickups at its Oakville Assembly Complex in Ontario, Canada, starting in 2026, boosting production of one of the company's most popular and profitable vehicles.
The move to add production of up to 100,000 units of its best-selling Super Duty to Oakville expands Super Duty production across three plants in North America, including Kentucky Truck Plant and Ohio Assembly Plant, which are operating at full capacity. It also paves the way to bring multi-energy technology to the next generation of Super Duty trucks, giving customers more freedom of choice and supporting Ford's electrification plans.

Ford Pro Demand Drives F-Series Super Duty Production Expansion To Canada, Plans To Invest ~$3B To Expand Super Duty Production

Palantir Technologies Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/PLTR#NYSE">PLTR</a>) shares rose moderately in Thursday&#8217;s <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/premarket">premarket trading, </a>reversing some of the 1.57% decline seen in the previous session. 
The rebound came amid a general improvement in risk sentiment toward tech stocks after Wednesday&#8217;s drubbing. Wedbush analyst Daniel Ives, a Palantir bull, on Thursday announced a new bull-case price target of $50 for the stock. The analyst maintained an Outperform rating and a $35 price target.
Palantir has been a major focus over the past year, with expanding use cases for its marquee products leading to a large partner ecosystem, said Ives in the note. He noted that demand has been rising rapidly across both commercial and government organizations.
&#8220;With AI spending taking up more spending in IT budgets as more organizations learn how to properly implement this tech, <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/equities/24/05/39104004/palantir-is-the-messi-of-artificial-intelligence-says-dan-ives-most-underestimated-ai-play">we believe the Messi of AI Palantir is in a prime spot </a>to continue expanding its pipeline as the company provides more use cases,&#8221; he said, adding that the Palantir story &#8220;remains very undervalued and misunderstood by the Street.&#8221;
Palantir is scheduled to report its second-quarter results after the market closes on Aug. 5. Analysts, on average, expect the company to report earnings of 8 cents per share, up from the year-ago&#8217;s 5 cents per share, and revenue of $652.14, representing an estimated 22.4% growth.
In premarket trading, Palantir rose 0.57% to $28.38, according to <a href="https://benzinga.grsm.io/register174">Benzinga Pro data. </a>The stock is up over 64% year-to-date.
