The Details: The drone attack, which took place on Monday, targeted the Kropotkinskaya station located in Krasnodar, according to Reuters. The Kropotkinskaya station is the largest pumping station on the pipeline in Russia and is responsible for pumping about 1% of global crude oil supply.
The Caspian Pipeline Consortium oversees the pipeline and, as of Monday, has not identified those responsible for the attack. However, it confirmed that the Kropotkinskaya facility was shut down, and crude oil flow through the Tengiz-Novorossiysk pipeline system was being maintained at reduced rates, bypassing the pumping station.
Deputy chairman of Russia&#8217;s Security Council Dmitry Medvedev stated, &#8220;Ukrainian drones attacked a pumping station that provides oil transportation through the main oil pipeline of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium. A blow to an oil consortium could stop oil pumping, unbalance the market, increase oil price spikes and cause direct damage to American companies.&#8221;
Furthermore, Medvedev said that Ukraine's attack on a pipeline partially owned by U.S. companies was a blow against President Donald Trump, who has sought lower oil prices. He added that it remained to be seen how Trump would respond.

President Donald Trump continues to plan and place tariffs on imported goods from several countries, due to what he calls an unfair trade balance <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/global/25/02/43442219/why-beer-tequila-avocados-cars-iphone-prices-could-rise-trumps-tariffs-on-canada-mexico-china-to-hurt-several-sectors">with other nations.</a>
A recent Benzinga poll shows what impact Trump's tariffs could have on the stock market.
What Happened: On Tuesday, Trump said he plans <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/02/43805852/trump-shakes-global-trade-with-25-auto-chip-and-pharma-tariffs-announcement-asian-stocks-pare-their-five-day-rally">to place tariffs </a>on several sectors, including automotive, semiconductors and pharmaceuticals.
Trump said automotive tariffs would come "in the neighborhood of 25%." A report said the tariffs could come as early as April 2.
Semiconductor and pharmaceutical tariffs would also come around the 25% level and could increase throughout 2025. No date for these tariffs has been announced or planned by Trump and the White House administration.
Trump has targeted China, Canada and Mexico with tariffs or threats of tariffs since taking office in January.
Benzinga recently asked if the tariffs could impact stock market indexes like the S&amp;P 500, which is tracked by the SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF Trust (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SPY#NYSE">SPY</a>).

In 2017, the SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF Trust was up 21.7%. This was the first year with Trump in office and many sectors saw gains during the year.
When asked what they thought the return of the SPY would be in 2025, these were the results:

The poll found that the largest percentage believed that the S&amp;P 500 Index would post gains of at least 16% in 2025. The 11% to 15% range came in second place at 22%.
It's also worth pointing out that the S&amp;P 500 decline in 2025 was tied for second in the poll at 22%. This could mean 2025 is a make-or-break year.
SPY Price Action: The SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF Trust trades at $611.79 on Wednesday versus a 52-week range of $493.56 to $611.96, a new high hit earlier in Wednesday&#8217;s trading session. The ETF is up 23.2% in the past year.

BABA has rallied by about 60% in just a few weeks. Analysts attribute this move to <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/market-summary/25/02/43806017/alibabas-q4-shakeup-many-asian-funds-exit-while-us-based-funds-like-ubs-oconnor-marathon-assetmark-cantor-fitzgerald-double-down">optimism around AI advancement.</a>
This could set the stage for what traders call a ‘crowded trade'. This would be bearish for the stock.
It means that because investors think the earnings will be good, the vast majority purchase shares ahead of the release. This makes the market effectively run out of buyers.
Stocks don't move higher unless traders and investors who wish to buy push the price up. A market with no buyers can't go up.

This means the stock is trading above what would be its typical or normal range. Some technical traders will be anticipating a reversion to the mean or move lower. They may enter the market as sellers and this could put downward pressure on the stock.

Resistance is a price level where there is a large amount of sell interest. Stocks can sell off of resistance if some of the people who created the resistance become willing to accept lower prices and start to undercut each other.
Excessive optimism about the earnings release, being overbought, and being at resistance means BABA may be about to head lower. Even if the earnings are good.
