Traders eyeing U.S. retail giants like Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AMZN#NASDAQ">AMZN</a>), Walmart Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/WMT#NYSE">WMT</a>) and Best Buy ahead of Black Friday and Cyber Monday may be in for an unpleasant surprise <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/large-cap/24/11/42094649/nvidia-stock-historically-drops-in-december-after-q3-earnings">as December kicks in.</a>
Despite the holiday shopping frenzy, historical data spanning decades suggests December is not the ideal month to invest in these retail behemoths.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">December Is (Not) The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year For Walmart</h2>
Over the last 20 years, December has been Walmart&#8217;s weakest month of the year. 
Shares of Walmart fell by an average of 1.1% during the month, marking their worst average monthly performance.
Adding to the gloom, Walmart shares have only closed December in positive territory 40% of the time—just 8 times in 20 years. This is the lowest winning ratio for any month in the calendar year.
The retailer&#8217;s worst December performance in recent history occurred in 2022, when Walmart shares tumbled 7% during the month.

When extending the timeframe to 30 years, the data remains consistent: December is still Walmart&#8217;s worst-performing month, with shares dropping 0.9% on average and maintaining a winning ratio of just 40%.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Amazon Also Sees Red In December</h2>
Amazon.com Inc. also tends to falter during the holiday season. While the e-commerce giant doesn't post losses as steep as Walmart's, December ranks as Amazon's second-worst month for stock performance, trailing only February.
Over the last 20 years, Amazon shares have fallen an average of 0.27% in December, with a winning ratio of just 45%.
The worst December on record came recently in 2022, when Amazon's stock plummeted by 13%, reflecting broader market turbulence. 
However, December hasn't always been grim—Amazon saw some standout gains in the past, including a 20.1% rally in 2008 and an 11.6% jump in 2004.

Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals may boost revenue, but they also weigh on profit margins. The steep discounts needed to attract consumers during the holidays often lead to margin compression, a red flag for investors prioritizing profitability.
The holiday period is typically when expectations for retail performance are already sky-high. If results don't meet or exceed those lofty benchmarks, stocks often sell-off.

Why Walmart, Amazon Stock Could Stumble This Holiday Season

The Board of Directors of RGC Resources, Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/RGCO#NASDAQ">RGCO</a>), at its meeting on November 22, 2024, declared a quarterly dividend of $0.2075 per share on the Company's common stock. The indicated annual dividend is $0.83 per share, a $0.03, or 3.8%, per share increase over the prior annual level. The Company has now increased the annual dividend 21 consecutive years. Paul Nester, CEO of RGC Resources, Inc., stated, "The Roanoke Gas utility continues to deliver solid operational and financial performance. Further, we are pleased that the MVP was completed in 2024 and now delivering affordable, reliable natural gas to Southwest Virginia. This dividend increase, our 21st annual increase, reflects our commitment to deliver long-term shareholder value." The dividend will be paid on February 1, 2025 to shareholders of record on January 17, 2025. This is the Company's 323rd consecutive quarterly cash dividend.

Colapinto wasn't alone in noticing the cannabis scent. Red Bull's Sergio &#8220;Checo&#8221; Pérez also weighed in, concerned about the track conditions: &#8220;Practice 1 was a total disaster, the track was very dirty.&#8221;

Robinson: The deal structure is a $55M project financing package split into three components: $17.5 million and $12.5 million in six-year notes tied to sulfide and oxide production respectively, plus a $20-million conditional equity commitment that only triggers if the mine hits $10 million in monthly revenue. We get 17% of gross revenues from both production tracks, structured through secure lockbox arrangements. <h4 class="wp-block-heading">Are you looking for additional investors/joint venture partners? </h4>
Yes, we&#8217;ve deliberately structured this to create multiple layers of upside potential, which is pretty unique in the mining space. We&#8217;ve created a hybrid model that offers both near-term cash flow from production and significant expansion potential. We&#8217;re already seeing interest from established mining players, but we&#8217;re particularly excited about bringing new investors into the space who understand the strategic value of critical minerals.
<h4 class="wp-block-heading">What are the downsides to depending on foreign sources of critical minerals?</h4>
China&#8217;s recent actions really highlight the urgency here. They&#8217;ve already implemented export controls on germanium and gallium, and just added antimony to that list. This isn&#8217;t theoretical anymore, it&#8217;s actively happening. We need to build regional resilience in our supply chains, particularly for these minerals that are crucial for defense and technology. The Darwin Mine gives us a unique opportunity to establish a domestic source for multiple critical minerals in a single asset, which is rare to find.
<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Will the mine be powered by solar? </h4>
The 100MW facility wouldn&#8217;t just power the mine. It would generate significant excess clean energy that we can sell back to the grid. What&#8217;s particularly interesting is that we can develop utility-scale energy storage systems using minerals we&#8217;re already producing. It creates a virtuous cycle where our mining operations directly support clean energy deployment
<h4 class="wp-block-heading">What are your 2025 goals?</h4>
For 2025, our key goals are reaching 300 tons per day on sulfide production within six months and 200 tons per day on oxide within nine months of funding. That puts us at $ 10 million in monthly revenue, which then triggers the deeper mine development program.
