Chestnut will be competing against soldiers in El Paso, Texas at the Fort Bliss Army base. The 16-time champion will attempt to eat as many hot dogs and buns in five minutes as the winner of the Nathan's contest can in 10 minutes. It is unknown who is making these hot dogs. 
"If I'm going to eat on the Fourth of July, I'm going to eat hard," Chestnut said.
Geoffrey Esper and James Webb are the betting favorites in the Nathan's contest without Chestnut. Esper's over/under is set at 49.5 for the contest. Esper ate 49 hot dogs finishing second last year. Webb finished third last year with 47 hot dogs eaten.
In 15 of his 17 appearances at the Fourth of July contest, Chestnut has consumed at least 60 hot dogs. On six occasions, he has eaten 70 or more. There were only two instances where Chestnut ate fewer than 60 hot dogs, and he won the contest both times.
What&#8217;s Next: Chestnut will also compete in an upcoming rematch with six-time Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest winner Takeru Kobayashi.

<h1 class="wp-block-heading">BZ: How did you wind up in cannabis?</h1>
Post: I&#8217;ve been in the cannabis industry for 14 years. I opened a marketing communications agency called MOST Consulting. We do design, content, strategy — anything in the communication space. Need a truck wrap? We&#8217;ll do a truck wrap. 
Also, my son is a very famous glassblower. He makes pipes, bongs and collectibles. His nom de plume is Snick Barnes. He&#8217;s in Philly, but he&#8217;s known all over the world. And he said, &#8220;Ma, you&#8217;ve got to get into cannabis. It&#8217;s going to blow up.&#8221; I said, &#8220;Okay.&#8221; And he was absolutely right.
<h1 class="wp-block-heading">BZ: He was ahead of the curve. </h1>
I&#8217;d like to think our little family is. Then I started going to things like Champs Trade Shows. And when medical cannabis started emerging, I worked with the then-governor of Pennsylvania to bring medical marijuana to the state. 
But before that, I had a rather large, multi-state transportation company called Diamond. I had 12 locations up and down the East Coast.
<h1 class="wp-block-heading">BZ: What were you transporting?</h1>
We did same-date, time-critical delivery. Some of my clients were large pharmaceutical distributors like Cardinal Health (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CAH#NYSE">CAH</a>) and McKesson Corp (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MCK#NYSE">MCK</a>). So, I understand the compliance and the necessity for handling schedule one narcotics, etcetera. We would also move lab rats that were [valued at] $20,000. We would do all kinds of deliveries like body parts, eyeballs, kidneys&#8230;
<h1 class="wp-block-heading">BZ: Organ transplants?</h1>
Yes. 
<h1 class="wp-block-heading">BZ: How much ice do you need to transport organs? A lot, right? </h1>
Yes. And it&#8217;s a very specialized pickup and delivery. Let&#8217;s say the eyeballs were in California. We would get an alert and have our affiliate in Los Angeles pick up the part, and put it on the plane. 
All of my drivers were TSA-certified, which means they&#8217;re excruciatingly detailed. We put freight in the belly of the plane. And that was tracked through to the operatory and done correctly within the compliance of the TSA. 
So, the magnitude of my understanding of being compliant is very high. I would hazard to say, I don&#8217;t know anybody in the cannabis industry who has the background that I do — in transportation, anyway.
<h1 class="wp-block-heading">BZ: Are your hopes high for later this year that <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/cannabis-rescheduling">cannabis will be rescheduled</a>?</h1>
I don&#8217;t think it&#8217;ll happen this year. But I have hopes. Hope isn&#8217;t always a strategy, but I do have hopes that it will happen. And we should have <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cannabis/24/06/39441930/why-descheduling-not-just-rescheduling-cannabis-could-swing-the-2024-election">de-scheduling, not rescheduling</a>. De-scheduling means it&#8217;s just like we could go buy beer. Rescheduling means it goes into another category that is monitored, tracked, and all that other s&#8212;. Sorry, I&#8217;m very direct.
<h1 class="wp-block-heading">BZ: What is the focus of Scarlet Express?</h1>
We pick it up at a &#8220;grow;&#8221; take it to a dispensary; pick it up at the manufacturer; pick it up at a dispensary and take it to you. I&#8217;m a startup, and I have letters of intent. The difference between me and others is many years of experience and understanding of what you need to be compliant and mitigate risk. 
<h1 class="wp-block-heading">BZ: What sort of challenges do you foresee in cannabis transportation? </h1>
You have a bunch of legislators writing policy, and not understanding anything about delivery. That is what often happens. 
Why do things in isolation, when you have a world of people you could call on? Pennsylvania held a symposium where they called in a variety of people to testify, including someone from Massachusetts, which has one of the most onerous [cannabis transportation] policies. Ask experts. Ask somebody who knows what delivery is about.
<h1 class="wp-block-heading">BZ: How did New Jersey roll out <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/new-jersey-cannabis">its cannabis program</a>? </h1>
It had its problems, just like every other state. It was slow. I testified before the Cannabis Regulatory Commission (CRC). This lovely man rented a space, paying something like $18,000 a month, and the CRC is sitting on it for two years. They haven&#8217;t actualized his license. Why? My heart bleeds. I ache for people who are being taken advantage of. It&#8217;s just terrible.
<h1 class="wp-block-heading">BZ: What do you want potential clients/investors to know about Scarlet Express?</h1>
If someone were to come to me and say, &#8220;I&#8217;ve got $75 million, and I want to have the largest national delivery service,&#8221; I would say, because of my background and years of experience in transportation, &#8220;I&#8217;m a sure bet.&#8221; I already built a large company in transportation. My network is very deep across the country. I also understand high-value, compliant delivery, as well as the insurance component and how to scale anywhere. 
I&#8217;m a problem solver. The basic thing about somebody in logistics, is you have to be able to survive in chaos. And you have to be able to make decisions quickly, turn on a dime. If there&#8217;s ever an issue with a driver, we have to send somebody to relay [cargo] wherever it has to go. You have to be able to think quickly.
<h1 class="wp-block-heading">BZ: With your expertise, you could handle logistics for anything. Why cannabis?</h1>
People always ask me, &#8220;How do I get in the industry?&#8221; Take a skill set. I know delivery and transportation inside and out. And it just seems natural to me because I own the marketing agency and they sort of dovetail together.

From Lab Rats And Eyeballs To Cannabis: Scarlet Express CEO Discusses Closed-Loop Delivery, How To 'Survive In Chaos'

The European Commission on Thursday imposed <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/06/39448914/china-agrees-to-discuss-ev-tariffs-with-eu-germany-welcomes-it-as-first-step-but-says-many-more-will">additional tariffs</a> of up to 37.6% on EV imports from China over concerns that cheaper EVs from China which benefit from state subsidies will push domestic players out of the market. 
What Happened: The commission has imposed provisional duties of 17.4% on BYD EV imports, 19.9% on Geely, and 37.6% on EVs from SAIC. The tariffs are on top of the 10% duty levied on all EV imports from China. 
The provisional subsidies come 9 months after the commissions started an anti-subsidy probe on passenger EVs imported from China. Other EV makers who cooperated in the investigation will be subject to 20.8% weighted average duty, the commission said in a statement on Thursday. 
The new tariffs will apply from Friday but are on a provisional basis for a maximum duration of four months until after the completion of the anti-subsidy investigation. Within the period, the commission will make a final decision on definitive duties that will typically apply for five years, the commission said. 
Why It Matters: There are concerns among <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/asia/24/06/39465271/deal-between-germany-china-could-stop-looming-tit-for-tat-on-ev-tariffs">European automakers</a> that China might hit back with duties of its own. China is the world&#8217;s largest auto market and retaliatory action could harm U.S. and UK automakers who are already strained in the geography due to heightened competition from domestic automakers. 
Volkswagen, the biggest automaker in Europe, criticized the Commission&#8217;s move in a statement to Reuters saying that the negative impact of the decision will outweigh any benefits to the European and German auto industry.

In a report last week, they wrote that "after a surge in housing during the pandemic, it has since retreated and stabilized. We view the forces that have <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/real-estate/24/06/39337282/u-s-home-prices-hit-record-high-as-mortgage-rates-start-to-decline">reduced affordability</a>, created a lock-in effect for homeowners, and limited housing activity as remaining in place through our forecast horizon."
During the pandemic in 2020 and 2021, buyers inundated the housing market to take advantage of low mortgage rates, leading to a spike in sales. However, in 2022, inflation drove interest rates up to 8%, the highest level since the early 1980s.
Homeowners who secured ultralow mortgage rates during the pandemic are reluctant to sell their homes and face significantly higher interest payments if they were to buy again at today's rates. This hesitation has severely constrained the supply of homes on the market.
Economists anticipate the lock-in effect will last six to eight years due to the wide difference between current mortgage rates and the rates many homeowners secured when rates were low.

Re/Max Co-Founder Dave Liniger expressed concern about people&#8217;s inability to move into larger homes because of unfavorable mortgage interest rates.
"The move-up market does not exist," Liniger said. "Starter homes have doubled in value, but owners cannot leverage their existing mortgage rates to upgrade."
Bank of America expects home prices will increase by 4.5% this year and another 5% in 2025. A modest decline of 0.5% is anticipated in 2026. Flat <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/real-estate/24/07/39575355/shrinking-dreams-new-homes-hitting-the-market-at-smallest-size-in-15-years">new home construction</a> is expected to exacerbate the supply-demand imbalance. The economists noted that affordability isn't likely to improve unless a recession exists.
"The U.S. housing market is stuck, and we are not convinced it will become unstuck anytime soon," Gapen and Park wrote.

U.S. automakers&nbsp;Ford Motor Co (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/F#NYSE">F</a>) and Tesla, however, are not faring well in the country.&nbsp;Tesla registrations slumped 12% to 23,029 units while Ford registrations fell 22% to 56,735 units.

While the U.S. <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/05/39006664/elon-musk-slams-biden-administration-over-100-tariffs-on-chinese-ev-imports-things-that-distort-the" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">quadrupled tariffs </a>on EV imports from China to over 100% in May, the EU on Thursday said that it will impose tariffs between 17.4% and 37.6% from Friday on EV producers in China. This will be on top of the existing 10% duty on car imports.
The EU tariffs are currently provisional as the union's investigation into China's subsidies for EV makers in the country continues. EU officials have alleged that EVs made in China benefit from unfair subsidization, allowing it to undercut domestic EV makers.

The odds of a rate cut in September rose following the CPI report, but the decision hinges on continued improvement in inflation data.
