At one point in the almost three-hour-long conversation, Rogan said he was &#8220;very happy&#8221; Zuckerberg brought Dana White, the UFC president, to Meta&#8217;s board of directors. This kicked off a tirade from Zuckerberg telling Rogan how White is an &#8220;amazing entrepreneur&#8221; and has been &#8220;talking to him for a while about that.&#8221;

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">The Power of Control – and Its Risks</h2>
Zuckerberg's dual-class stock structure at Meta gives him majority voting power. This means he doesn't have to worry about losing his job, like most CEOs who have to keep their boards happy.&nbsp;
"In a normal corporate environment, the CEO's job is often just convincing the board not to fire them," Zuckerberg told Rogan. "Because I control our company, I have the benefit of not having to convince the board not to fire me. I actually get to use our board to have the smartest people who I can get to have around me help work on these problems."
While this may free Zuckerberg to focus on long-term projects, it also concentrates an extraordinary amount of power in one individual. Critics argue this structure undermines accountability, turning Meta's board into what governance expert Nell Minnow calls "cheerleaders, rather than overseers." This setup makes people wonder if Meta's leaders can handle big problems without strong systems to keep things fair and balanced.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">A Controversial Appointment</h2>
Zuckerberg's comments about his board's composition came amid the recent appointment of Dana White, president of the UFC, <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/social-media/25/01/42833727/dana-white-wanted-elon-musk-mark-zuckerberg-in-cage-fight-now-hes-on-metas-board-of-directors">to Meta's board of directors</a>. White's close ties to Donald Trump – he's been a vocal supporter and even appeared in Trump's first TikTok video – have drawn criticism. Many see White's addition as a move to curry favor with the incoming Trump administration, particularly given Trump's history of criticism toward Meta.
"I would be surprised if Meta&#8217;s competitors haven&#8217;t had similar conversations at the board level about adjusting to potential government scrutiny changes," Jason Schloetzer, an associate professor at Georgetown University McDonough School of Business Governance, told Fortune. Experts like him warn that politicizing board appointments could set a dangerous precedent, prioritizing political alliances over qualifications.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">A Questionable Fit</h2>
White's inclusion has also raised eyebrows for reasons beyond politics. While he's a successful entrepreneur who transformed the UFC into a $12 billion global brand, he lacks governance experience outside of sports entertainment. This runs counter to the growing expectation that board members bring industry-specific skills or expertise in areas like cybersecurity, finance or emerging technology.
&#8220;He&#8217;s got a strong backbone. We have a lot of governments and folks around the world putting a lot of pressure on our company and we need some strong people who are going to help advise us on how to handle some of these situations,&#8221; Zuckerberg told Rogan.
Additionally, White's history of controversy, including a 2022 incident where he was caught on video in a physical altercation with his wife, has sparked internal debate at Meta. Some employees reportedly celebrated his appointment, while others questioned the message it sent about Meta's values.

NIO Inc. With concerns growing over TikTok&#8217;s potential ban in the U.S. in the coming days, many users are flocking to alternative platforms like RedNote, a popular Chinese social media app, known as Xiaohongshu in China, <a target="_blank" href="https://cnevpost.com/2025/01/16/nio-william-li-welcomes-tiktok-refugees-rednote/" rel="noreferrer noopener">reports</a> CnEV Post.
In a post on RedNote, Li, who launched his personal account in September 2024, reached out to these new users, explaining a term gaining popularity in China, &#8220;Jiadian,&#8221; CnEV Post adds.
TikTok, facing a possible shutdown for U.S. users by Sunday, has fueled fears of a platform disruption, <a target="_blank" href="https://edition.cnn.com/2025/01/16/tech/tiktok-ban-alternative-apps/index.html" rel="noreferrer noopener">reports</a> CNN.
If TikTok doesn&#8217;t secure a resolution through the Supreme Court or find an American owner by then, it might shut down for U.S. users.

Earlier, many believed that while the app could be removed from app stores, existing users would still have access, CNN adds.
RedNote, which focuses on lifestyle content such as beauty, travel, and food, has also become a venue for Li to promote the NIO brand.
With 35,000 followers, Li&#8217;s presence on the platform highlights the growing interest in Chinese social media as alternatives to TikTok emerge.
NIO launched its new affordable EV brand Onvo in May. The brand started selling its first vehicle – the Onvo L60 – in late September and since then, Nio <a href="https://www.benzinga.com//node/42909739" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">sales have been on the rise.</a>
The Onvo L60 is a mid-size electric SUV that starts at 206,900 yuan (~$28,300) with the battery pack included, much lower than Tesla&#8217;s affordable models Model 3 or Model Y in China.
In September, NIO delivered 832 Onvo L60s despite having only a few selling days.
In October, the first full month of sales, Onvo deliveries rose to 4,319. In November, deliveries rose to 5,082, implying rising demand for the vehicle.
Price Action: NIO shares are trading higher by 1.59% to $4.165 at last check Thursday.

NIO CEO Welcomes TikTok Users To RedNote Amid US Ban Concerns

Needham analyst Charles Shi reiterated Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSM#NYSE">TSM</a>) with a Buy and a <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/TSM/analyst-ratings" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">$225 price target</a>.
Taiwan Semiconductor <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/earnings/25/01/43022654/taiwan-semiconductor-q4-earnings-3nm-and-5nm-nodes-lead-topline-growth-expands-margins-issues-strong-q1-outlook" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">guided 2025 revenue</a> growth to be in the mid-20s percent range, primarily in line with consensus.
More interestingly, management guided AI revenue to double in 2025 after tripling in size and reaching the mid-teens percent of the overall revenue in 2024.

Taiwan Semiconductor extended the AI forecast horizon to 2029 and guided to a mid-40% CAGR for AI revenue over the next five years. For the company overall, Taiwan Semiconductor management noted long-term revenue CAGR inching and approaching 20% (versus 15%-20% previously).
The numbers imply Taiwan Semiconductor&#8217;s expected non-AI revenue growth for 2025 will be in the low teens versus the high teens in 2024.
It does not necessarily mean Taiwan Semiconductor is calling for a deceleration of non-AI growth in 2025, and may merely reflect conservatism, it shows that management&#8217;s conviction on a stronger non-AI recovery in 2025 is not quite there. Another number that management provided on the call also reveals the same trend.
Taiwan Semiconductor guided that &#8220;Foundry 2.0&#8221; TAM, which includes conventional foundry, advanced packaging, and testing, will grow by 10% in 2025 (versus 6% in 2024).
Since Taiwan Semiconductor accounts for roughly 34% of the Foundry 2.0 TAM (~$265 billion in 2024), its 25% growth in 2025 would imply roughly flattish growth for the rest of the Foundry 2.0 TAM, which is largely non-AI-related.
Taiwan Semiconductor guided 2025 CapEx to be $38 billion-$42 billion, significantly higher than the mid-$30 billion range Shi had thought due to Shi&#8217;s more cautious view on front-end equipment spending.
The ~$40 billion CapEx in 2025 translates to ~35% capital intensity (versus the analyst&#8217;s previously called low 30s percent intensity).
Taiwan Semiconductor said roughly 70% of the spending will be on advanced nodes, 10%-20% on specialty devices and 10%-20% on packaging, testing and photomask making.
Historically, the breakdown of CapEx has been 70%- 80% on advanced nodes, 10%- 20% on specialty devices and 10% on packaging, testing and photomask making.
While Taiwan Semiconductor did not provide the actual spending mix in the past, Shi noted guidance suggests that directionally, advanced node spending is trending down while back-end spending (packaging/testing) is trending up.
Shi added that advanced packaging related to CapEx will grow faster than overall CapEx.
It has been anticipated that as Moore&#8217;s Law slows, packaging will play a bigger role in extending the semiconductor roadmap. However, the better indicator is Taiwan Semiconductor&#8217;s forecast of packaging revenue.
Taiwan Semiconductor management said on the call that packaging revenue, which accounted for over 8% of the overall revenue in 2024, will account for over 10% of the overall revenue in 2025.
Shi noted that historically, Taiwan Semiconductor&#8217;s packaging revenue was about 7%- 8% of total revenue. The faster growth of packaging revenue should lead to more rapid development of packaging CapEx.
On the advanced node spending side, Taiwan Semiconductor confirmed that more 5nm to 3nm conversion is on the way in 2025 but also confirmed that the second fab in Arizona, which is built for 3nm and below, will start to take tools by the end of 2025.
Taiwan Semiconductor in the past said that the second fab in Arizona will enter mass production in 2028.
Tool move-in by the end of 2025 means the schedule should be pulled into 2027.
