According to JPMorgan analyst Nikolaos Panigirtzoglou, hedge funds, after playing defense for much of 2024, are now quietly rebuilding their positions &#8211; especially in the Magnificent Seven (MAG 7) stocks.

Despite recent market jitters, retail investors continue to &#8220;buy the dip.&#8221; pouring a massive $79 billion into equity ETFs so far in February, per JPMorgan's data. That's only slightly below January's $92 billion, reinforcing retail's role as the market's backstop.
One ETF in particular stands out &#8211; Invesco QQQ Trust (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/QQQ#NASDAQ">QQQ</a>), which tracks the Nasdaq-100, spiked on February 25th. This suggests retail traders are staying aggressive on high-growth tech names like Nvidia Corp (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVDA#NASDAQ">NVDA</a>), Apple Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AAPL#NASDAQ">AAPL</a>) and Microsoft Corp (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MSFT#NASDAQ">MSFT</a>).

February Fever: Retail Investors 'Buy-The-Dip' As Hedge Funds Rebuild Magnificent Seven Bets

Six Flags Entertainment Corporation (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/FUN#NYSE">FUN</a>) shares <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/movers" rel="noreferrer noopener">are trading slightly higher on Thursday.</a>
The merger of legacy Cedar Fair and legacy Six Flags occurred on July 1, 2024,<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/02/b43999354/six-flags-entertainment-corporation-reports-2024-fourth-quarter-results-provides-adjusted-ebitda-g" rel="noreferrer noopener"> after the&nbsp;second quarter&nbsp;close.</a>
Accordingly, the reported results presented in this earnings release reflect the financial results for the combined company from Sept. 30, 2024, through Dec. 31, 2024 (fourth quarter).
Quarterly sales of $687.31 million missed the street view of $700.52 million. The increase in net revenues reflects $324 million of the net revenues related to the legacy Six Flags operations added in the merger.
Adjusted EBITDA increased by $120 million to $209 million. The increase in Adjusted EBITDA included $113 million from legacy Six Flags operations and a $7 million increase from legacy Cedar Fair operations, including the impact of the fiscal quarter calendar shift.

&#8220;We successfully achieved more than $50 million in gross cost synergies and drove meaningful improvement in guest satisfaction scores and higher guest demand,&#8221; said Six Flags President and CEO Richard A. Zimmerman.&nbsp;
Modified EBITDA margin increased 650 bps to 30.4% from the year-ago period. The combined company reported net loss of $2.76 per share in the fourth quarter.
The company exited the quarter with cash and equivalents worth $83.174 million.
Outlook: For 2025, Six Flags is targeting Adjusted EBITDA of $1.08 billion to $1.12 billion, exclusive of any portfolio optimization efforts.
&#8220;Our 2025 guidance reflects the strong progress we&#8217;ve made to date and our belief in the opportunities ahead as we execute our initiatives to drive higher levels of attendance and guest spending, while realizing cost synergies and maximizing operating efficiencies,&#8221; Zimmerman added.
Price Action: FUN shares are trading higher by 2.52% to $47.15 premarket at last check Thursday.

New Jersey's latest budget proposal could shake up the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/sports-betting">online sports betting (OSB)</a> <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/gaming">and iGaming landscape</a>. 
JPMorgan analyst Joseph Greff is ringing the alarm. Governor Phil Murphy's fiscal year 2026 budget plan includes a tax rate hike for OSB and iGaming operators, jumping to 25% from 13% and 15%, respectively.
While this isn't a done deal — last year's proposed increase to 30% failed — the governor's endorsement raises the odds of some form of tax bump passing this time.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">DraftKings Feels The Heat</h2>
If implemented by July 2025, Greff estimates that DraftKings Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DKNG#NASDAQ">DKNG</a>) could take a $52 million to $57 million EBITDA hit next year. That's roughly 5% to 6% of its projected 2025 EBITDA midpoint of $950 million — no small change.
Investors may recall DraftKings already bracing for a $50 million hit in the second half of 2024 due to Illinois' tax hike. This latest proposal would add another hurdle for the sports betting giant.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Other Operators In The Crosshairs</h2>
It's not just DraftKings feeling the squeeze. 
BetMGM, a subsidiary of MGM Resorts International (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MGM#NYSE">MGM</a>), could see a $35 million to $39 million EBITDA impact.
On the other hand, Caesars Digital, a unit of Caesars Entertainment Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CZR#NASDAQ">CZR</a>) and PENN Entertainment Inc&#8216;s (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/PENN#NASDAQ">PENN</a>) Penn Interactive would take smaller, yet still noticeable, hits of $15 million to $16 million and $3 million to $4 million, respectively.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Investor Implications: Who Comes Out On Top?</h2>
While tax increases are never welcome news, Greff suggests that the biggest players — like DraftKings and BetMGM — are best positioned to weather the storm. Their scale and brand power provide some cushion against regulatory shifts.
Additionally, states looking to plug budget gaps could accelerate iGaming legislation, potentially creating new market opportunities. For investors, keeping an eye on legislative developments in New Jersey and beyond could be key to navigating the evolving regulatory landscape.
