Guardant Health, Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GH#NASDAQ">GH</a>), a leading precision oncology company, today announced the National Cancer Institute (NCI) has selected the company's Shield&#x2122; multi-cancer detection (MCD) test for use in its Vanguard study, which will address the feasibility of using MCD tests in future clinical trials related to cancer screening. MCD tests are blood tests that can screen for several types of cancers simultaneously.
In February 2024, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) launched the Cancer Screening Research Network (CSRN), which is funded by the NCI, part of NIH, to evaluate emerging cancer screening technologies, including MCD tests. The network will support research to investigate how to identify and diagnose cancers earlier, when they may be easier to treat.
As an initial effort, CSRN is launching the Vanguard Study, a four-year pilot study that will enroll up to 24,000 people to inform the design of a much larger randomized controlled trial evaluating the use of MCD tests for cancer screening. In its studies, the network aims to reach diverse populations, including underserved populations, that are receiving routine care in a variety of health care settings.

Guardant Health Announces Shield Multi-Cancer Detection Test Selected for National Cancer Institute's Vanguard Study; Pilot Study to Enroll 24K Participants and Inform Future Research on MCD Tests for Cancer Screening

GFL Environmental Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GFL#NYSE">GFL</a>) shares surged on Tuesday after the company disclosed an agreement to sell interest in its Environmental Services business to Apollo Global Management, Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/APO#NYSE">APO</a>) and BC Partners. The deal values the Environmental Services business at <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com//node/42838942" rel="noreferrer noopener">an enterprise value of&nbsp;C$8.0 billion ($5.6 billion).</a>
GFL will retain a&nbsp;C$1.7 billion&nbsp;equity interest in the Environmental Services business and expects to realize cash proceeds from the sale of approximately&nbsp;C$6.2 billion&nbsp;net of the retained equity and taxes.
As per the deal, GFL will retain a 44% equity interest in its Environmental Services business, with the Apollo Funds and BC Funds each holding a 28% equity stake.
GFL plans to use up to C$3.75 billion of the net proceeds from the transaction to repay debt, with up to C$2.25 billion allocated for share repurchases. The remainder will be used for transaction fees and general corporate purposes.
The transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of 2025, subject to customary closing conditions.
Patrick Dovigi, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of GFL, said, &#8220;The transaction will allow us to materially delever our balance sheet which will accelerate our path to an investment grade credit rating.&#8221;
&#8220;The transaction allows us to monetize the Environmental Services business in a tax efficient manner while retaining an equity interest that will allow us to participate in what we expect to be continued value creation from these high-quality assets. In addition, GFL will maintain an option, not an obligation, to repurchase the Environmental Services business within five years of closing.&#8221;
The company plans to provide more details on the transaction&#8217;s financial impact when it <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/calendars/guidance" rel="noreferrer noopener">reports its 2024 full-year results in February.</a>

Citigroup Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/C#NYSE">C</a>) will release its fourth-quarter financial results before the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/C/earnings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">opening bel</a><a href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/C/earnings">l on Wednesday, Jan. 15.</a>
Analysts expect the New York-based company to report quarterly earnings at $1.21 per share, up from 84 cents per share in the year-ago period. Citigroup projects quarterly revenue of $19.42 billion, compared to $17.44 billion a year earlier, according to data from <a href="https://pro.benzinga.com/dashboard">Benzinga Pro</a>.
On Monday, Barclays upgraded the stock from Equal-Weight to Overweight and raised its price target from $70 to $95.
With the recent buzz around Citigroup, some investors may be eyeing potential gains from the company's dividends too. As of now, Citigroup offers an annual dividend yield of 3.08%, which is a quarterly dividend amount of 56 cents per share ($2.24 a year).
So, how can investors exploit its dividend yield to pocket a regular $500 monthly?
To earn $500 per month or $6,000 annually from dividends alone, you would need an investment of approximately $194,870 or around 2,679 shares. For a more modest $100 per month or $1,200 per year, you would need $39,989 or around 536 shares.
To calculate: Divide the desired annual income ($6,000 or $1,200) by the dividend ($2.24 in this case). So, $6,000 / $2.24 = 2,679 ($500 per month), and $1,200 / $2.24 = 536 shares ($100 per month).
Note that dividend yield can change on a rolling basis, as the dividend payment and the stock price both fluctuate over time.
How that works: The dividend yield is computed by dividing the annual dividend payment by the stock&#8217;s current price.
For example, if a stock pays an annual dividend of $2 and is currently priced at $50, the dividend yield would be 4% ($2/$50). However, if the stock price increases to $60, the dividend yield drops to 3.33% ($2/$60). Conversely, if the stock price falls to $40, the dividend yield rises to 5% ($2/$40).
Similarly, changes in the dividend payment can impact the yield. If a company increases its dividend, the yield will also increase, provided the stock price stays the same. Conversely, if the dividend payment decreases, so will the yield.
