Woolworths H1 Net Profit Rises 19%

Woolworths (OTC: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/wolwf#OTC">WOLWF</a>) reported a 19% rise in its first-half net profit. 

Woolworths' net profit for the period surged to 1.15 billion Australian dollars (US$1.18 billion), from A$966.9 million, in the year-ago period. However, analysts were expecting a profit of A$1.195 billion. 

It raised its fiscal 2013 net profit forecast to 4%-6% growth, versus its prior forecast of 3%-6% growth. 

Its revenue for the first half climbed 3.2% to A$30.88 billion from $29.91 billion. 

Woolworths also announced its plans to pay an interim dividend of 62 Australian cents per share, versus 59 cents per share.

Woolworths shares closed at $35.00 yesterday.

Woolworths Ltd (OTC: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/wolwf#OTC">WOLWF</a>) reported a 4.3% rise in its first-quarter sales. 

Woolworths' quarterly total sales rose to 15.22 billion Australian dollars (US$ billion), from A$14.6 billion, in the year-ago period. Its sales from continuing operations climbed 4.7% to A$14.11 billion.

Woolworths Ltd (OTC: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/wolwf#OTC">WOLWF</a>) reported a 5.1% y/y rise in its fourth quarter sales. 

Woolworths' quarterly sales gained to 12.90 billion Australian dollars (US$13.33 billion). However, analysts were expecting sales of around A$12.8 billion. 

Its full year sales for FY12 climbed 4.7% y/y to A$56.7 billion.

Woolworths' quarterly sales from continuing operations climbed 3.9% y/y to A$13.7 billion. It also reported that Australian food and liquor sales gained 2.9% y/y to A$9.4 billion.

Woolworths Posts 3.8% Rise In Q3 Sales

Kroger Co (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/kr#NYSE">KR</a>) swung to a fourth-quarter loss on Thursday. Kroger posted a quarterly loss of $307 million, or $0.54 per share, versus a year-ago profit of $279 million, or $0.44 per share. Its total sales climbed 7.7% to $21.4 billion. Excluding one-time charges, Kroger's adjusted earnings came in at $0.50 per share. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.49 per share on revenue of $21.4 billion. Kroger projects 2012 earnings of $2.28 to $2.38 per share, versus analysts' estimates of $2.22 per share.

Kenneth Cole Productions Inc (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/kcp#NYSE">KCP</a>) swung to a profit in the fourth quarter. Kenneth Cole posted its quarterly profit at $8 million, or $0.43 per share, versus a year-ago loss of $2.7 million, or $0.15 per share. Its net sales climbed 8.5% to $117 million. Kenneth Cole's wholesale revenue surged 47% to $62.3 million, while consumer direct revenue dropped 17% to $54.7 million.

Toronto-Dominion Bank (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/td#NYSE">TD</a>) posted a drop in its first-quarter profit. TD raised its quarterly dividend to 72 Canadian cents per share. TD posted its quarterly earnings at C$1.48 billion, or C$1.55 per share, versus C$1.56 billion, or C$1.67 per share, in the year-ago period. Its adjusted earnings rose to C$1.76 billion, or C$1.86 per share, versus C$1.62 billion, or C$1.73 per share. Analysts were expecting earnings of C$1.76 per share. 

Nash-Finch Company (NASDAQ: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/nafc#NASDAQ">NAFC</a>) reported its Q4 EPS at $0.97 on revenue of $1.14 billion. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.82 on revenue of $1.11 billion.

Veolia Environnement SA (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/ve#NYSE">VE</a>) swung to a loss in 2011. Veolia posted a net loss of EUR489.8 million, versus a profit of EUR558.5 million in the year-ago period. Analysts were expecting a profit of EUR106.8 million. Veolia's revenue surged to EUR29.65 billion from EUR28.76 billion. Its earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization dropped 14% to EUR3.15 billion from EUR3.66 billion. 

DineEquity Inc (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/din#NYSE">DIN</a>) swung to a fourth-quarter profit. DineEquity's system-wide domestic same-restaurant sales climbed 1%. DineEquity posted its quarterly profit at $28.6 million, versus a year-ago loss of $50.8 million. Its per-share profit came in at $1.51, versus a year-ago loss of $3.33. Excluding one-time items, the company's profit came in at $0.91 per share. DineEquity's revenue dropped 19% to $242.2 million. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.85 per share on $242.3 million in revenue. 

Bombardier Inc (OTC: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/bdrbf#OTC">BDRBF</a>) reported a 27% drop in its fourth-quarter earnings. Bombardier's quarterly earnings declined to $214 million, or $0.12 per share, from $295 million, or $0.16 per share, in the year-earlier period. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.11 per share. Bombardier's revenue dropped to $4.32 billion from $5.59 billion, versus analysts' estimates of $4.74 billion. 

Woolworths Ltd (OTC: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/wolwf#OTC">WOLWF</a>) reported a 17% drop in its first-half net profit. Woolworths' net profit for the six months to December 31 declined to 966.9 million Australian dollars (US$1.04 billion), versus A$1.16 billion, in the year-ago period. However, analysts were expecting a net profit of A$961.4 million. Its revenue climbed 5.0% to A$29.91 billion from A$28.48 billion. 

Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Holdings Ltd (OTC: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/yshlf#OTC">YSHLF</a>) posted a 24% surge in its Q4 net profit. Yangzijiang Shipbuilding's quarterly net profit climbed to CNY1.04 billion, from CNY838.1 million, in the prior year. Analysts were expecting a net profit of CNY1.05 billion. Its revenue rose 21% to CNY5.24 billion, versus analysts' estimates of CNY3.74 billion. 

Citic Pacific Ltd (OTC: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/ctpcy#OTC">CTPCY</a>) posted a 4% rise in its 2011 net profit. Citic Pacific's net profit for the period surged to HK$9.23 billion, from a restated HK$8.89 billion, in the year-ago period. Its revenue jumped 42% to HK$100.09 billion from HK$70.61 billion. 

Royal Ahold NV reported a 75% surge in its net profit for the fourth quarter. Ahold's quarterly revenue climbed 4.5% to EUR7.29 billion, versus EUR6.98 billion, in the year-ago period. Its operating income rose 11.2% to EUR28 million, from EUR295 million. Ahold's net income surged to EUR270 million, from EUR154 million.

Essilor International SA (OTC: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/esloy#OTC">ESLOY</a>) posted a 9.4% rise in its 2011 net profit. Essilor's net profit for the period climbed to EUR506 million. Its overall revenue surged 7.7% to EUR4.19 billion.

Havas SA (OTC: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/havsf#OTC">HAVSF</a>) posted a 9% rise in its net profit in 2011. Havas' net profit surged to EUR120 million in 2011. Its overall revenue climbed 5.6% to EUR1.65 billion. Income from Operations rose to EUR220 million from EUR204 million in 2010.

OAO Lukoil Holdings (OTC: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/lukoy#OTC">LUKOY</a>) reported a 39% drop in its fourth-quarter net profit. Lukoil's quarterly net profit declined to $1.35 billion, from $2.19 billion, in the year-ago period. However, analysts were expecting a net profit of $2.64 billion. Lukoil's revenue for the full year surged 27% to $133.65 billion from $104.96 billion. Its earnings before interest, taxation, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) climbed to $18.61 billion from $16.05 billion.

Woolworths' net profit for the six months to December 31 declined to 966.9 million Australian dollars (US$1.04 billion), versus A$1.16 billion, in the year-ago period. However, analysts were expecting a net profit of A$961.4 million. Its revenue climbed 5.0% to A$29.91 billion from A$28.48 billion. 

Woolworths announced its plans to pay an interim dividend of 59 Australian cents per share, versus 57 cents per share in the last year.

Woolworths' sales climbed to A$29.73 billion. The company's sales in its supermarket division for the six months to January 1 gained 5.6% y/y to A$25.25 billion.

Woolworths Ltd (OTC: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/wolwf#OTC">WOLWF</a>) reported that its ALH Group unit has bought 31 hotels and a liquor store in New South Wales. 

The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Hormel Foods Corp (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/hrl#NYSE">HRL</a>) reported a 15% rise in its fiscal third-quarter net income and raised its full-year earnings forecast. Hormel reported its quarterly earnings at $98.5 million, or $0.36 per share, up from $85.4 million, or $0.32 per share, in the year-ago period. Its revenue climbed 10% to $1.91 billion from $1.73 billion. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.35 per share on revenue of $1.87 billion. Hormel now projects 2011 earnings of $1.70 to $1.75 per share, versus $1.67 to $1.73 per share. However, analysts expected earnings of $1.71 per share for the year.

Signet Jewelers Ltd (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/sig#NYSE">SIG</a>) reported a rise in its Q2 profit. Signet reported its quarterly net income at $66.3 million, or $0.76 per share, up from $38.7 million, or $0.45 per share, in the year-ago period. Signet's sales at stores open at least a year surged 12.2% in the US and 1.4% in Britain. Overall company sales climbed 10.8% to $797.6 million.

Regis Corp (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/rgs#NYSE">RGS</a>) reported an upbeat quarterly profit. Regis posted a Q4 net loss of $16.4 million, or $0.29 per share, versus a profit of $18.3 million, or $0.30 per share, in the year-ago period. Excluding items, Regis earned $0.37 per share, up from analysts' estimates of $0.30 per share. Regis' revenue climbed 0.3% to $592 million, versus analysts' estimates of $591.1 million. Regis projects full-year 2012 operational earnings of $1.16 to $1.32 per share, versus analysts' estimates of $1.25 per share. 

Brown Shoe Co Inc (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/bws#NYSE">BWS</a>) swung to a Q2 loss and lowered its full-year profit outlook. Brown Shoe posted a quarterly net loss of $4.6 million, or $0.11 per share, versus a profit of $5.3 million, or $0.12 per share, in the year-ago period. Its revenue climbed 7.2% to $628.1 million. Brown Shoe now projects a full-year adjusted profit of $0.85 to $0.97 per share, up from its earlier forecast of $1.25 to $1.32 per share. 

Big Lots Inc (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/big#NYSE">BIG</a>) released its results for the fiscal second-quarter on Thursday. Big Lots' net profit for the period came in at $35.7 million, or $0.50 per share, versus $38.9 million, or $0.48 per share, in the year-ago period. Its net sales climbed 2.2% to $1.17 billion. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.44 per share on revenue of $1.16 billion.

Energy Conversion Devices Inc (NASDAQ: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/ener#NASDAQ">ENER</a>) reported a wider Q4 loss. Energy Conversion posted a quarterly net loss of $42.1 million, or $0.84 per share, versus a loss of $20.9 million, or $0.49 per share, in the year-ago period. Its revenue dropped 15% to $73.1 million.

Sanderson Farms Inc (NASDAQ: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/safm#NASDAQ">SAFM</a>) reported a loss for the third-quarter on Thursday. Sanderson Farms posted a quarterly loss of $56 million, or $2.51 per share, versus a profit of $36 million, in the same year-ago period. Analysts were expecting a loss of $0.96 per share. Its revenue surged 4.5% to $511 million, versus analysts' estimates of $515 million.

Diageo PLC (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/deo#NYSE">DEO</a>) reported a 17% rise in its full-year profit. Diageo's profit for the period surged to 1.9 billion pounds ($3.1 billion), from 1.63 billion pounds, in the year-ago period. Its sales climbed 2% to 9.94 billion pounds. The tax rate dropped from 21% to 14.5%.

Toll Holdings Ltd (OTC: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/thkuy#OTC">THKUY</a>) reported a 1% rise in its annual net profit. Toll's net profit for the period climbed to A$281 million, from A$279 million, in the year-ago period. Its revenue surged 18% to A$8.23 billion from A$6.94 billion. 

Woolworths Ltd (OTC: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/wolwf#OTC">WOLWF</a>) reported a 5.1% rise in its annual net profit. Woolworths' net profit for the period rose to A$2.12 billion, from the previous year's A$2.02 billion, versus analysts' estimates of A$2.14 billion. Woolworths' revenue from ordinary activities climbed 4.9% to A$54.51 billion from A$51.96 billion. 

Credit Agricole (OTC: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/crary#OTC">CRARY</a>) reported a 1.8% drop in its second-quarter net income. Credit Agricole's net income for the period declined to 881 million euros ($1.27 billion). Its revenue climbed 2% to 9.14 billion euros.

Wheelock &amp; Co (OTC: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/whlky#OTC">WHLKY</a>) reported a 56% surge in its net profit for the first half. Wheelock's net profit for the period rose to HK$10.22 billion, from HK$6.53 billion, in the year-ago period. Its revenue climbed 9.9% to HK$13.76 billion from HK$12.52 billion. 
Massmart Holdings Ltd (OTC: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/mmrty#OTC">MMRTY</a>) reported a rise in its full-year profit. Massmart's total sales in the year ending June 30 climbed 11.6% to 52.95 billion rand. Its trading profit surged 10.3% to ZAR2.059 billion.

Wharf (Holdings) Ltd (OTC: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/warfy#OTC">WARFY</a>) reported a 31% rise in its first-half net profit. Wharf's net profit for the period rose to HK$14.30 billion, from HK$10.89 billion. Excluding revaluation gains and related taxes, Wharf's underlying net profit climbed 11% to HK$3.28 billion from HK$2.96 billion. Wharf's revenue surged 13% to HK$9.75 billion from HK$8.62 billion. 

Ahold NV (OTC: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/ahony#OTC">AHONY</a>) reported a rise in its market share for the second quarter. Ahold's net profit for the period fell 1.5% to EUR199 million. Its sales dropped 3.5% to EUR6.9 billion. At constant exchange rates, net sales climbed 5.4%. Ahold's earnings before interest and taxes dipped 20.7% to EUR275 million.

Sime Darby Bhd (OTC: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/smebf#OTC">SMEBF</a>) swung to a net profit in the fourth quarter. Sime Darby reported a net profit of MYR1.31 billion in the three months ended June 30, versus a net loss of MYR77.4 million, in the year-ago period.

Glencore International PLC (OTC: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/glcnf#OTC">GLCNF</a>) reported a strong rise in its first-half net income per share. Glencore reported its earnings at $0.57 per share, up from $0.29 per share, in the year-ago period. Its adjusted earnings came in at $0.56 per share.
