"They established it—it was established by Elizabeth Pocahontas Warren," Trump said, mocking Warren's past claims of Native American ancestry. "At the ultra-left CFPB, which was terrible, so many people have been hurt by that. I used to get calls from lending officers from owners of small banks, and they were almost crying. What they did to those people; they destroyed them and put them out of business."
The CFPB was originally designed to protect consumers from predatory lending practices, like unfair bank overdraft fees and shady mortgage deals. But Trump argued that it overregulated banks and financial institutions, making it harder for businesses to operate.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Elon Musk and DOGE Take Over</h2>
The agency's closure was fast-tracked by Elon Musk, who effectively heads the Department of Government Efficiency, an office created to shrink the federal government. Musk announced the shutdown in a Feb. 7 post on X, writing, "CFPB RIP," alongside a tombstone emoji.

A team of Musk's DOGE workers was given access to CFPB's data systems, which hold sensitive financial records. Former CFPB attorney Hanna Hickman <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/trump-doge-cfpb-60-minutes-transcript/">told</a> "60 Minutes," &#8220;We heard from our colleagues that they&#8217;re camped out in the basement. And they&#8217;ve got papers up on the windows to keep people from looking in. And they&#8217;ve been accessing data, certainly."

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Concerns Over Data and Conflicts of Interest</h2>
Critics, including Warren and former CFPB employees, have raised alarms about what Musk and his team might do with the bureau's data. The CFPB was actively investigating digital banking and fintech companies before its shutdown—including firms like Venmo, Cash App, and Google Pay.
This is particularly concerning, critics say, because Musk is <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/01/43376448/elon-musks-x-money-to-see-about-600-million-active-monthly-users-via-visa-direct-integration">preparing to launch a digital payment platform</a> called X Money. Does Musk stand to gain something from these files? &#8220;Absolutely," Hickman said. "He is potentially able to gain access to files of his competitors."
For his part, Musk denied any wrongdoing. "I don't know of a case where an organization has been more transparent than DOGE," he told reporters in the Oval Office earlier this month. "You can see: am I doing something that benefits one of my companies or not? It's totally obvious."

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Court Battles and Consumer Protections on Hold</h2>
Meanwhile, the shutdown of the CFPB has frozen many consumer protection rules that were set to take effect. Some of these include:

<li>Capping credit card late fees at $8 (down from $30)</li>
<li>Limiting overdraft fees to $5 (down from $27)</li>
<li>Removing medical debt from credit reports</li>
<li>Increasing regulation of digital payment apps</li>
<li>Giving consumers more control over their personal financial data</li>
</ul>
Trump has nominated Jonathan McKernan, a former Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation board member, as the new CFPB director. But with the agency effectively shut down, it's unclear what role—if any—it will have moving forward.

Trump Says He Shut Down 'The Ultra-Left CFPB' After Bankers And Loan Officers Called Him 'Almost Crying'

Archer Aviation Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ACHR#NYSE">ACHR</a>) reported financial results for the fourth quarter Thursday after the bell. Here&#8217;s a look at the key details <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/02/b44024157/archer-announces-fourth-quarter-full-year-2024-results-sets-plans-for-midnight-commercial-deployme">from the print</a>.
Q4 Earnings: Archer reported a fourth-quarter loss of $1.42 per share, missing analyst estimates for a loss of $1.24 per share, according to <a href="http://pro.benzinga.com">Benzinga Pro</a>.
Archer said its quarterly spending stayed within the guided range and remained close to flat for the second straight quarter. The company ended the period with $834.5 million in cash and cash equivalents. 
Archer unveiled its &#8220;Launch Edition&#8221; commercialization program on Thursday with Abu Dhabi Aviation as its first customer. The program is expected to allow the company to deploy the aircraft to dozens of early adopter markets in advance of type certification by the FAA. The company noted that it has received FAA approval for about 13% of the total compliance verification documents in the final phase before type certification.&nbsp;
&#8220;With our new Launch Edition program now in place and aircraft production starting at ARC, we are on track to deliver our first revenue-generating Midnight aircraft later this year,&#8221; said Adam Goldstein, founder and CEO of Archer.
&#8220;Our billion-dollar-plus liquidity position gives us the resources we need to execute against our civil and defense business strategies while also setting us up to seize new opportunities around AI and more.&#8221;
The company said it&#8217;s also seeing strong demand in the defense market for its planned hybrid aircraft that it&#8217;s developing under an exclusive partnership with Anduril Industries.
&#8220;We believe the potential demand for this aircraft is stronger than expected,&#8221; the company said in a letter to shareholders.

Kineticor Asset Management LP ("Kineticor") is pleased to announce that Pembina Pipeline Corporation ("Pembina") (TSX:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/PPL#TSX">PPL</a>) (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/PBA#NYSE">PBA</a>) has entered into agreements for a 50 percent interest in the Greenlight Electricity Centre Limited Partnership ("Greenlight LP" or "Greenlight"), a special-purpose limited partnership with Kineticor Holdings LP #3, a portfolio company of OPTrust.
Greenlight LP is developing the Greenlight Electricity Centre ("GLEC" or "Project") which is a proposed multi-phased gas-fired combined cycle power generation facility of up to 1,800 MW with carbon capture optionality coupled with significant land holdings that can accommodate a co-located 1,800 MW data centre complex. The Project would be constructed on land already zoned for heavy industrial use and strategically located near transmission lines, utility infrastructure, carbon sequestration, and fiber in Alberta's Industrial Heartland.
The GLEC is managed by Kineticor, which successfully developed, constructed, and currently operates the 900 MW Cascade Power Plant near Edson, Alberta.
