Paul Reubens’s iconic home, beloved for his role as Pee-wee Herman, is listed for $4.995 million.

According to The Wall Street Journal, it's the first time in nearly four decades that the midcentury gem has been up for sale. Reubens, who captivated audiences in the 1980s with his quirky and imaginative TV show "Pee-wee's Playhouse," purchased the Los Angeles residence in 1985 for $415,000.

The median sale price of a home in Los Feliz was $1.9 million in April, up 2.4% since last year, according to real estate brokerage Redfin. Homes in Los Feliz sell an average within 41 days after being listed, compared to 43 days last year.

Reubens' property is a rare find that offers a glimpse into the life of the late comedian, who died from cancer in 2023 at age 70.

"It's a piece of Hollywood history," Douglas Elliman listing agent Juliette Hohnen said.

Situated on a 1.4-acre lot in the Los Feliz area, the 2,921-square-foot home offers 360-degree views of canyons and the city, including Griffith Park Observatory and the Hollywood sign. The single-story ranch house features characteristic elements, including walls of windows and sliding glass doors that lead to a patio and yard.

Reubens personalized the three-bedroom, 2½-bath home by adding vintage wallpaper in the bar area, bright yellow Formica countertops in the kitchen and an enclosed cat patio.

"It's a very lovely, very quirky but also super cool house," Hohnen said. It's what everybody in L.A. wants, which is a midcentury with views."

The living room's sliding glass doors open to the patio, which features a pool and spa. The den’s built-in wet bar and fireplace are the focal points.

The master bedroom has a dressing area, sitting room and bath that opens to the cat patio, while the two guest rooms share a bathroom.

Reubens skyrocketed to fame with his creation of the Pee-wee Herman character, gaining widespread recognition after the release of the Tim Burton-directed film "Pee-wee's Big Adventure in 1985. His success continued with a movie sequel and the Emmy Award-winning TV show "Pee-wee's Playhouse."

Reubens faced legal trouble in 1991 when he was arrested and charged with indecent exposure, to which he pleaded no contest. Despite this setback, he transitioned into acting roles on shows like "Murphy Brown" and eventually returned as his iconic Pee-wee character for a Netflix special 2016.
