Legendary actress Dianne Keaton has been quietly flipping homes for decades. Eight years after embarking on a gut renovation, she has just put one of her better-known projects on the market — documented in the best-selling book, “The House That Pinterest Built.”
According to Realtor.com, Keaton moved into her Sullivan Canyon home in Los Angeles in 2017 after completing the renovation. However, the actress, best known for playing highly independent, restless free spirits, has decided to up sticks again, putting the five-bedroom, seven-bathroom 1920s property on the market for $29 million.

Earthquake Resistant And Fireproof
The 8,000-square-foot home is especially appealing in the wake of the recent L.A. wildfires. It is both earthquake-resistant and fireproof. She told Wine Spectator that the home’s design was influenced by her years living in New York during her breakthrough as an actor in the 1970s. Upon completing the house, she moved in with her children, daughter Dexter, now 29, son Duke, now 25, and the family’s Golden Retriever, Emma.
A Flipping Trailblazer
Keaton is something of a grand dame of L.A. celebrity house flippers who have augmented their incomes in a notoriously unpredictable industry by revamping high-end homes. Ellen DeGeneres and many younger stars have famously followed in Keaton’s footsteps.
“A large portion of entertainment clients we work with rapidly buy and sell homes as a result of their lives changing very often,” Carl Gambino a real estate agent at Compass, told the Hollywood Reporter. “I see the absolute most turnover in Los Angeles. I just think because it’s a younger city than New York, it’s more entertainment-based. There’s people making money in the entertainment business very quickly, and they upgrade.”
Trending: BlackRock is calling 2025 the year of alternative assets. One firm from NYC has quietly built a group of 60,000+ investors who have all joined in on an alt asset class previously exclusive to billionaires like Bezos and Gates.
Other celebrity flippers include Jeremy Renner, Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus, and Vanessa Hudgens. While Keaton has never been among the highest-paid Hollywood actors, and many of her most famous roles were in the 1970s when pay was far less than it is now, buying and selling real estate has been a lucrative side hustle.
Books Deals And Ongoing Film Roles
In addition, her iconic status as a fashion tastemaker has resulted in book deals such as last year’s “Diane Keaton: Fashion First.” She has published three memoirs in all: “Then Again,” a remembrance of her mother, in 2011; “Let’s Just Say It Wasn’t Pretty,” on the culture of beauty and Keaton’s distinctive style, in 2014; and the personal “Brother & Sister,” the story of her brother, Randy, and his battle with mental illness and alcoholism, in 2020.
Recently, Keaton’s acting career has enjoyed a revival. In 2023, she appeared in “Book Club: The Next Chapter,” in which she and co-stars Jane Fonda, Mary Steenburgen, and Candice Bergen reprise their roles from the 2018 film. Last year, she starred in “Arthur’s Whisky” with Patricia Hodge and Lulu and “Summer Camp” with Kathy Bates and Alfre Woodard.
