Enginuity Power Systems describes itself as the leading innovator in highly efficient combined heat and power systems (CHPs) with its E|ONE system that lets consumers be part of the sustainability movement, living comfortably on or off the grid while saving money.

What Is Sustainability?

The word sustainability gets tossed about — but what does it really stand for? The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) has a meaningful definition: the balance between the environment, equity, and economy. Being sustainable entails an integration of environmental health, social equity, and economic vitality that creates and maintains thriving, healthy, diverse and resilient communities for this generation and generations to come. The practice of sustainability recognizes how these issues are interconnected and requires a systems approach and an acknowledgement of its complexity.

A Systems Approach Might Solve a Complex Problem

Sustainable practices attempt to support ecological, human, and economic health. Sustainability presumes that resources are finite and should be used conservatively and wisely with a view to long-term priorities and consequences of the ways in which resources are used. To manage anything of value that is in limited supply requires a systematic plan. Enginuity Power Systems shares its effective plan, in the form of its E|ONE micro-combined heat and power system (EI).

Co-founder of Enginuity Power Systems and inventor of E|ONE James Warren believes that with “power that you get from a power plant, only about 30% of the available energy arrives at your home in the form of power. We are at over 90% energy efficiency — that is a significant change from a carbon footprint standpoint for your home. It's basically the same as taking an entire car off the road every time you install an E|ONE in the home.”

Sustainable for ‘This Generation and Generations to Come’

In the simplest terms, sustainability exists as an intrinsic part of the legacy left to children and grandchildren. Leaving cash, real estate and furniture matter little if the earth cannot safely host the living. Part of the way to reduce carbon footprint and reverse climate change means increased use of alternative energy sources including solar and wind. Companies like SunPower Corp. SPWR Avangrid Inc. AGR provide such alternative energy sources. The E|ONE generates electricity from multiple types of alternative energy.

“The engine will be installed in several of our E|ONE micro-combined heat and power pilot systems to drive a robust testing program in 2022,” said Jacques Beaudry-Losique, president of Enginuity Power Systems. “The E|ONE System is a total home energy solution, providing required electricity and space and water heating, operating on or off the grid, complimentary with solar [power] systems.”

Winning Awards for Integrating the Environment, Society and the Economy

The E|ONE recently won the Sustainable Solutions Category of the 2022 AHR Expo Innovation Awards Competition. The long-established AHR Expo is co-sponsored by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) and the Air Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI).

The E|ONE was awarded Best in Show, Best Home Technology Product, and Best Energy Efficient Product at the 2020 International Builders Show in Las Vegas. Recently, a panel for the CleanEquity 2020 Conference identified Enginuity Power Systems as one of the world’s most innovative sustainable technology companies.

To quote Co-Founder and Chairman Steve Niswander, “We actually make renewables reliable.”
