Despite the continued growth of the electric vehicle market, there are still challenges and roadblocks standing in the way of mass adoption. Among them — and perhaps the most worrisome for drivers — is range anxiety.
In other words, what is a driver to do when their range is dwindling and anxiety is rising?
Finding a charging station is step No. 1. While charging stations are popping up all over the world — thanks in large part to startups like Dunamis Charge — it can still be a challenge to find one when you need it the most.
Don't Miss:
- A groundbreaking energy company plugs into the $400 billion EV industry and is seeking investors.
- Amid the ongoing EV revolution, previously overlooked low-income communities now harbor a huge investment opportunity.
Vammo, a São Paulo-based startup, is working on a solution to this problem. The company has its sights set on scaling electric motorcycle battery swapping in the Latin America region.
Formerly known as Leoparda Electric, Vammo has raised a $30 million Series A round — led by Monashees — to expand its service that provides unlimited access to battery-swapping stations.
Since launching roughly 10 months ago, Vammo has facilitated more than 150,000 battery exchanges in Brazil, with no intentions of slowing down in the months to come.
Within the next one to two years, the company hopes to expand its customer base in Brazil while moving its operations into other countries, with Colombia and Mexico first on the list.
"Our aim is to develop the infrastructure to make electric mobility a reality in the region. We are excited to bring on investors who share our vision that two-wheeled vehicles will be the first to electrify in this part of the world and that Vammo is at the forefront of this transition," Vammo CEO Jack Sarvary said.
One of the keys to Vammo's early success is its compatibility with many of the most common motorbike brands, including Niu and Super Soco. That's in addition to swapping stations operated by employees, along with self-service cabinets that should reach the market by 2025.
Vammo has made major strides in less than a year. Its bold plan for the future is promising for drivers with range anxiety. Depending on its near-term development, don't be surprised if other startups jump in on the action — especially in the electric vehicle space.
