Every Time We Drive We Wonder If Is It Going To Break Again,' Says A Cybertruck Owner Prompting Elon Musk To Step In Personally

Lamar had long dreamed of owning a Tesla Cybertruck, but his experience quickly became a nightmare. After convincing his skeptical family to let him buy the futuristic vehicle, the $100,000 truck broke down just two weeks after he got it.

The persistent electrical issues left Lamar and his family feeling anxious every time they drove the car. "Every time we drive, we wonder if it's going to break again," Lamar told Fortune.

Don't Miss:

Despite numerous trips to the service center and getting multiple loaner vehicles, the problems with the Cybertruck's electrical systems continued.

Frustrated by the lack of progress, Lamar took to social media to share his experience, hoping to get Tesla's attention. The posts eventually caught the eye of Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who personally stepped in to address the issue and promised Lamar a replacement truck.

Unfortunately, Lamar’s replacement Cybertruck also had issues similar to what many other owners experienced. Common problems include unintended acceleration, faulty windshield wipers, and rapid battery drain. Cybertruck’s stainless steel body also needs vinyl wrapping because paint doesn’t stick to it, and the advanced steer-by-wire system has also been problematic.

After wrapping it in blue for a few thousand extra dollars and going on vacation, Lamar returned to find the truck completely unresponsive. "It was just this giant brick in my garage," he said. This led him to post about the issues again on Musk’s social media platform to prove he wasn't just seeking attention.

Although initially happy, he couldn’t shake the feeling that the truck might fail again, especially if he were somewhere remote.

Some people and influencers love the Cybertruck, but Lamar’s experience shows the problems Tesla is having as it tries to innovate with electric cars. Early buyers have pointed out some serious quality issues that Tesla needs to fix.

However, not everyone is impressed with the Cybertruck. Many people think it's a risky or downright ridiculous and unsafe design that focuses on “style” instead of practicality. There are also many doubts about how well it performs and holds up in real-world situations, to say the least.

Despite these setbacks, Lamar remains hopeful that Tesla will improve the Cybertruck’s reliability. "I just want Tesla to be better," he said, explaining his decision to speak out.

Tesla has been ramping up production of the Cybertruck, and it has become one of the top electric pickups in the U.S. market, surpassing competitors like the Rivian R1T and Ford F-150 Lightning.

Lamar’s persistence paid off. After plenty of back-and-forth with the company, he eventually got a working Cybertruck. He’s now happy with his vehicle and has no regrets about sticking with Tesla.
