A Tesla Cybertruck owner recently spent $4,200 wrapping their vehicle to look like stainless steel, only to discover that no one could tell the difference between the wrap and the truck's original look.
The owner shared their experience on a Cybertruck forum, explaining that they had the wrap applied at a shop in California, even though they live in Arizona, because the shop had more experience wrapping Cybertrucks.

Despite the steep price tag, the owner said that most people who saw the truck didn't even realize it had been wrapped. When a fellow forum user asked, “So nobody sees it was wrapped [sic] … why did you do it? It’s a waste of money, in my opinion,” they answered, “The uniformity of the color is much better. Fingerprints don’t show up, and it is easy to clean off the bugs.”

Of course, they’re referring to how difficult it is to clean fingerprints, smudges, and dirt from the Cybertruck's bare metal finish. The wrap makes it easier to maintain.
The revelation that, despite the high cost, people who saw the truck didn't realize it had been wrapped drew uniform reactions on Reddit, where users questioned the decision to spend so much on something that wasn't noticeable. "Imagine buying a new car then spending 4k to paint it the same color again," one user remarked.

Others criticized the wrap as an unnecessary waste of money, with one commenter saying, "These wraps only last a couple of years before looking awful."
On the other hand, some users were baffled when they learned that the $80,000+ vehicle was bare steel. As one commenter put it, "Wait, the cybertruck is just raw stainless, not even clear-coated?" Still, the fact that no one noticed the wrap highlights the irony of spending thousands of dollars on something so subtle.

This Reddit discussion highlights a common frustration among Cybertruck owners about maintaining the truck's stainless steel exterior. Some owners have reported rust problems after their trucks were exposed to rain, prompting Tesla to recommend cleaning tips and specific products to remove rust spots.
Tesla engineer Wes Morrill explained on social media that the rust is only on the surface and can be easily cleaned, but it's still a concern for owners who want their trucks to look flawless.
