Minnesota Governor and VP candidate under Kamala Harris Tim Walz recently took some hard shots at JD Vance and Donald Trump, calling out their understanding of manufacturing and their treatment of working-class Americans. At a rally, Walz stated bluntly that the only thing Trump and Vance are good at “manufacturing” is misinformation – or, as he put it, “bullsh*t.”

Walz argued that neither Trump nor Vance understands the struggles of the working class or what it takes to support American manufacturing. He claimed that instead of having concrete plans to improve the lives of everyday people, Trump and Vance are more concerned with making empty promises and focusing on themselves. According to Walz, this approach leaves hardworking Americans behind.
In contrast, Walz praised Vice President Kamala Harris, who he said is genuinely committed to creating jobs and helping middle-class families. He highlighted that under Harris, “Pennsylvania created over 560,000 jobs including 28,000 manufacturing jobs. Those are facts.” Walz applauded Harris for her vision and how she talks about unifying the country, noting that she brings a list of actionable priorities – like lowering family costs – to the table daily.

Walz also swiped at Trump and Vance for focusing on self-promotion rather than what matters to average people. He argued that “they never talk about you. Donald Trump talks about himself because that’s the only person he’s concerned with.”
However, it’s worth noting that Donald Trump has long enjoyed support from many working-class voters, particularly in manufacturing-heavy states like Ohio. During his presidency, Trump pushed for tax cuts and tariffs to boost American industry and bring jobs back home.

His supporters argue that these moves were beneficial in reducing unemployment and revitalizing sectors like steel and auto manufacturing. While his policies had mixed results, many of his voters appreciated his efforts to put “America First” and saw his stance on trade as a move to strengthen domestic industries.
On the other hand, Trump has made numerous comments denigrating unions and even workers themselves. Corey Pollard, a workers' compensation attorney and a staunch union supporter, said he fears Trump/Vance’s economic policies will undermine union members’ job security. "Policies that promote deregulation and corporate tax cuts could result in job losses in industries where unions are strong like manufacturing and transportation," Pollard explained.
