Android Helps Amazon Solidify Second Spot In Online Music Market-Share (AMZN)

The NPD data shows that Amazon AMZN has solidified its second position in the online music market share through its prominent position in Android (Open Handset Alliance) devices. According to the NPD, iTunes tops the list with a share of 69.9% whereas the Android helped Amazon to clinch a market share of 11.6%, with Zune, Wal-Mart WMT, Napster and Rhapsody all coming in at 1-2% for the January-March calendar year. TechCrunch reports that Amazon was a far away winner in both the last two years moving from 4% in 2008 doubling to almost 8% in 2009 and coming in just below 12% this year. Amazon boomed while others lost hold, as the NPD data shows the sale of Android devices boomed relative to iPhones and the Amazon Mp3 store prominently featured in them.
