DigiNation is MetaCreating Gamefi's Expanding Metaverse

The emergence of metaverse gaming in the cryptocurrency and defi space sparked an immediate chain reaction which resulted in high-profile companies such as Facebook embarking on their own metaverse adventures.

While the social media giant clamors to get aboard the metaverse train, projects in the gamefi (gaming finance) space are already making strides in bringing blockchain-based metaverse gaming to life.

DigiNation – A Metaverse Unto Itself

Prominent among these is the upcoming Web3 metaverse gaming project DigiNation, which launches its first gamified NFT sale on November 19. On that date, 950 unique NFTs will be minted, granting users access to DigiNation’s rich new metaverse. Another 74 non-fungible tokens will also be minted and delivered to community members who helped in the development of DigiNation’s virtual environment.

Dubbed ‘DigiAvatars’, these unique NFTs will act as the player’s digital identity within the gaming space. DigiAvatars will evolve over time as the player progresses in the metaverse, and will be bestowed with new unique traits depending on the player’s activities. The DigiAvatars also accrue monetary rewards within DigiNation’s creator economy as they perform and complete in-game tasks.

Metaverse gaming promises to expand upon the gamefi phenomenon by introducing virtual worlds which venture beyond the 2D gaming spaces offered by incumbent projects. Metaverse worlds will be compatible with state-of-the-art gaming conventions which provide immersive interaction with the gaming space, such as AR/VR devices, and threaten to bridge the gap between blockchain technology and Triple-A gaming graphics.

Ethereum-Based Creativity

DigiNation is built on the Ethereum blockchain, with plans already afoot to expand beyond the predominant defi venue into other popular networks. DigiNation kicks off its metaverse gaming environment with an integrated NFT market known as DigiMarket, where users can trade their in-game characters with each other. The virtual world also comes equipped with a 3D creator studio called DigiMaker, and an NFT web gallery dubbed NFT Live

As mentioned, the DigiAvatars that act as in-game personas go on sale on November 19 at a price of 0.08 ETH, plus any resultant gas fees. Once owned by a player, DigiAvatars are automatically updated and customized as per the player’s in-game activities. This effectively gamifies the NFT-creation process, while adding a layer of monetization to the experience by boosting the value of each character according to their success in the metaverse.

The team behind DigiNation is ostensibly mapping human minds onto digital containers, and allowing the result to play itself out in the virtual environment. Unlike the proprietary metaverse world currently being planned by Facebook – which will naturally be overseen in a top-down manner by its creators – true metaverse gaming on the blockchain executes its vision while handing control over to the player themselves, in line with the principles of decentralization and autonomy native to the gamefi and crypto space.

MetaCreation Provides New Levels of Customization

Such autonomy is exemplified by the customization options available to those who don a digital avatar and enter into DigiNation’s metaverse. Once a player is in the game world, their avatars are customized according to a range of self-applied parameters including fame, experience, level, contribution, and fertility. Avatars can then be traded and sold on DigiNation’s integrated NFT marketplace.

The customization options on offer extend beyond the cut-and-paste features common to many NFT-gaming projects, where the unique traits of a player-character often begin and end with their choice of weapon or attire.

‘MetaCreation’ is the term applied to projects like DigiNation where every aspect of the player-character is represented by their avatar. This includes a gamer’s unique data, their in-game past, their financial transactions on the blockchain, and more – adding to DigiNation’s lofty goals of mapping real-world players onto their digital simulacrums.

Integration and Compatibility

Additionally, DigiNation will support the integration of existing NFTs from other marketplaces into its metaverse. For example, a user’s favorite 2D CryptoPunk NFT could be imported to DigiNation’s avatar creator, where it will be transformed into a 3D playable character in the virtual world.

Such cross-compatibility with existing NFT platforms opens up DigiNation’s range of influence beyond that of siloed NFT and gaming projects, where exclusivity to a single platform has become a hindrance, rather than a feature to be desired.

Following the upcoming DigiAvatar sale, the world of DigiNation goes live in December with a range of gaming features that promise to entice metaverse gamers. These include a survival game called Crypto Survivor, which will initially only be open to those who successfully bid on DigiAvatars in the upcoming whitelist commencing November 18 – one day before the public NFT sale.

Once inside the metaverse, players will have the chance to collect unique items, art - including unique songs - and even properties within the game space. Early adopters of DigiAvatars will stand a chance of collecting more unique traits and collectibles than the next batch of players who enter the metaverse.
