Tesla Inc. TSLA is well known for sending free software updates that improve its vehicles long after customers have taken delivery.
The next update on the way is bringing improvements to core features, including vehicle charging and security.
What Happened: According to Not a Tesla App, the software update 2022.40.1 will increase charging efficiency at Tesla Superchargers with different max charging rates.
It will also improve the vehicle's pre-conditioning mode that is used to prepare when routing to a Supercharger.
The description says it should result in less energy used per charge, and also faster charging.
Why It Matters: The update is expected to keep pets safer when using "dog mode" (since Teslas are electric, users can run the heater or air conditioner without the engine so a pet can safely stay alone in the car).
Tesla's "Sentry Mode" security feature will blast loud music inside the car, as well as play the normal exterior alarm if an intrusion is suspected. But with this update, if both dog mode and sentry mode are activated together, the interior alarm will not play if an intrusion is detected.
Other notes mention improvements to the radio interface and data resets for when tires have been rotated. Owners should expect to receive this update in the next few weeks automatically.
