Tesla Inc TSLA is gearing up to launch the upgraded Model 3 Performance in China, with sales anticipated to start in the second quarter of 2024.
This new variant of the popular electric sedan is expected to roll off production lines at the Gigafactory in Shanghai, followed by the Fremont Factory in California. The Model 3 Performance, absent at the initial launch of the upgraded Model 3 in China and the United States, is finally making its much-awaited debut, as shared by Teslarati.
The upgraded Model 3 was first introduced in China in late August last year, followed by its North American launch earlier this month. However, both regions only saw the release of two variants: the base Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) and the mid-tier Long Range Dual Motor All-Wheel Drive (AWD). The Performance model was notably missing from these launches.
Recent sightings in the United States, including a Right Hand Drive (RHD) configuration, have revealed new features like a dedicated front splitter, an aggressive rear spoiler, Sport bucket seats, and a potential Ludicrous Mode badge.
According to the Chinese media outlet Dongchedi, the upcoming Model 3 Performance is expected to be priced around 400,000 yuan (approximately $55,730). The car will reportedly feature new rims, a revamped braking system with larger brake discs, and more capable tires.
Mass production is set to commence at the end of March in both Tesla production facilities. The hype surrounding this launch is significant, with Tesla Australia chief engineer Daniel Ho hinting that the new performance vehicle will be "pretty special," suggesting substantial improvements over the previous generation Model 3 Performance.
As Tesla continues to innovate and push the boundaries of electric vehicle technology, this upcoming launch is poised to reinforce its position as a leader in the EV market.
