Elon Musk has expressed admiration for Alphabet Inc.’s GOOGL new AI video tool, Veo 2, as it enters the competitive landscape against OpenAI’s Sora.
What Happened: On Monday, Google introduced Veo 2, a cutting-edge AI video tool, alongside its enhanced Imagen 3 image models.
Veo 2 boasts features like up to 4K resolution, extended video lengths, shallow depth of field, and specific lens types.
The company's CEO Sundar Pichai showcased videos generated by Veo 2 on X, formerly Twitter, demonstrating its potential.
Replying to him, xAI founder Musk said, “Looks impressive,” referring to the videos generated by the model.
Musk also shared a post by prominent investor Jason Calacanis, who stated that both Google's Gemini and xAI's Grok models have now "reached parity, and in some cases are much better," than OpenAI's ChatGPT.
Calacanis noted that his use of all three models—Google's Gemini, Grok, and ChatGPT—had shifted dramatically over the past month, with Google's tools now handling more than 50% of his queries, a sharp increase from the previous 90% reliance on ChatGPT.
Calacanis said, "It's now a data and UI game, and I think Reddit, X/Twitter, and Google's dataset will trounce OpenAI's lack of data."
His statement underscores the growing belief that Google's data advantages and advanced AI tools could soon outpace OpenAI in several key areas.

Why It Matters: Previously, Marc Andreessen commended OpenAI's Sora video model for tackling a major challenge in robotics by enabling the creation of realistic video.
He highlighted the model's capability to produce 3D-realistic video from text inputs, effectively simulating intricate elements such as lighting and reflections that are crucial for real-world navigation.
However, apart from OpenAI's Sora, Google's latest model competes with several other companies.
Earlier this year, Amazon.com Inc. AMZN launched its AI-driven video tool aimed at advertisers, entering the market alongside Adobe's ADBE Firefly Video Model.
In October 2024, Meta Platforms Inc. (META) also unveiled Movie Gen, a new tool designed to create videos, images, and audio from text prompts.
