Electric vehicle sales in the U.S. rose significantly year-on-year in November, according to data from the Joint Office of Energy and Transportation.
EV Sales In November: In November, a total of 141,442 battery electric vehicles (BEV) and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEV) were sold in the U.S., marking a growth of 11.5% from the corresponding period of 2023. BEVs accounted for a majority of the sales with 117,929 units sold as compared to just 23,513 PHEVs.
These vehicles, in fact, accounted for 10.4% of total light-duty vehicle sales during the month, significantly higher than the 9.4% market share it held in 2023.
The Honda Prologue and the Chevrolet Equinox sales increased significantly in November as compared to the month before as did the Ford Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning, the office said. The Lightning, it added, had a 96% increase in sales in November as compared to October
Charging Infrastructure Growth: 2,490 public charging ports also came online during November to cater to the growing number of EVs and there are more than 205,000 charging ports available across every state, the office said.
In the eleven months through the end of November, 1,412,298 electric vehicles were sold in the U.S., including both battery electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. This marks growth of about 9% from the corresponding period of 2023 and implies continued consumer interest in EVs.
Cumulatively, to date, more than 6.1 million battery electric vehicles and plug-in vehicle hybrid vehicles have been sold in the U.S., the office said.
