EV giant Tesla Inc. TSLA is now offering free colored vinyl wraps for foundation series Cybertruck buyers in the U.S. in a bid to increase deliveries for its premium offering.
What Happened: Tesla announced the offer in a post on social media platform X.
“Foundation Series gets complimentary XPEL vinyl wrap when taking delivery by March 31,” the company said.
The Cybertruck's stainless steel body allows no exterior paint. However, customers can wrap the truck if they wish to customize their vehicle.
Several interestingly wrapped Cybertrucks have emerged on roads and social media to date. While celebrity couple Jay-Z and Beyoncé wrapped their Cybertruck in matte black, Mexican entrepreneur Alejandro Salomon designed his vehicle wrap after the P-51 Mustang Bomber.
Why It Matters: Tesla manufactured only foundation series Cybertrucks for the first few months of deliveries. The foundation series refers to a limited and pricier edition of the Cybertruck with laser-etched badges and premium accessories.
In October, Tesla started selling the regular version of Cybertruck priced about $20,000 lower than the foundation series. However, the company’s inventory continues to have several foundation series trucks listed, hinting at demand constraints possibly owing to the high price point. While the foundation series Cybertruck starts at $99,990, the regular Cybertrucks start at just $79,990.
The company is likely attempting to clear the inventory for the foundation series as it is offering discounts of up to $6000 for the vehicles. Vinyl wraps for the Cybertruck are priced at $4,500 on Tesla’s online shop.
