Snap Inc SNAP the parent company of Snapchat, is set to report earnings after the close Tuesday.

Apptopia’s VP of Research, Tom Grant, joined Benzinga Live Tuesday afternoon to discuss Snapchat’s data trends into the report.

Apptopia’s data tracks Snapchat’s activity very well, Grant said. Apptopia weighs various data streams and is able to gauge the activity trends of different mobile apps beyond just downloads.

“Both consensus and Apptopia data show a sequential deceleration in growth,” Grant said. “The consensus is at 3% quarter-over-quarter growth of DAUs, where our data shows more like 1%.”

Grant added the North American region was negative in the fourth quarter, while the consensus is expecting growth in the North American region. North American users are typically seen as more valuable users for social media companies like Snapchat.

Apptopia data also shows growth in India and other regions, which could help the company’s growth outlook.

Some of Snapchat’s most high-value users actually spent more time on Snapchat on a year-over-year basis, Grant said. The added time from its power users makes it easier for advertisers to target customers, he said.

Snapchat is typically very volatile after its earnings reports. In fact, according to Grant, the stock has moved more than 20% after its earnings report in five of its last six reports.
