Speculation is circulating that Capcom ADR CCOEY might release the original Resident Evil on Steam soon, triggered by a new listing on PEGI’s website for the PC version with a slated release date of June 18.

This listing, discovered by Gematsu, is still up at the time of writing. Resident Evil initially debuted on PC in December 1996, not long after its PlayStation launch. However, none of the original games are currently available on major PC platforms like Steam.

If this PEGI listing does indicate a re-release, it’s unclear which version of Resident Evil will be available. One possibility is the Director's Cut, which came out in 1997 and includes changes like new item and enemy placements, as well as new outfits and weapons. The Director's Cut is currently accessible through PlayStation Plus.

The Resident Evil series has been influential in gaming, blending horror, action, and campiness. It has spawned numerous remakes and ports, including Resident Evil 4 VR, which introduced exclusive VR features and enhanced gameplay.

Capcom’s ongoing efforts include rumored remakes of Resident Evil Zero and Code Veronica, as well as development on the next mainline installment, informally referred to as Resident Evil 9.
