Maryland Dispensary Fined $26K For Selling Weed Found Discarded In Dumpster
In the wake of recreational cannabis sales beginning in Maryland, licensed shops saw great success, with consumers spending $87.43 million on legal marijuana products in the first month. However, Curio Wellness' Far & Dotter dispensary in Timonium faced a $26,000 fine for reselling cannabis retrieved from a dumpster by employees. The Maryland Cannabis Administration found that 224 grams of discarded cannabis were repackaged after being left in the dumpster for over 41 hours. Video footage showed employees retrieving the cannabis. An employee's email complaint prompted the swift action from regulators, leading to the fine and investigation. Curio denies selling tainted cannabis, stating that the products were still sealed when retrieved. The company has undertaken internal investigations and training to prevent such incidents in the future.
