Growing Your Own Weed Could Land You In Jail In Washington State As Home Cultivation Bill Dies In House Committee
Lawmakers in Washington state have declined a move to allow adults to legally cultivate cannabis at home. House lawmakers failed to vote on House Bill 2194 from Representative Shelley Kloba before the 5 February deadline. The bill would have permitted home cultivation of up to four plants per person or 10 per household. Currently, growing cannabis for personal use without a medical card is a Class C felony. Those found guilty face up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000. Washington became one of the first US states to legalise cannabis for recreational use back in 2012. However, efforts to extend legalisation to home-growing have faced opposition from those concerned about illegal sales and use by minors.
