Wisconsin Lawmakers Propose Bill To Decriminalize Weed Possession: Fines Instead Of Prison Time
A group of bipartisan Wisconsin lawmakers have unveiled a proposal to decriminalize the possession of marijuana. Under the proposal, the possession of 14g of marijuana would be punishable by a $100 fine, as opposed to traditional criminal charges that see punishments of up to $1,000 and up to six months in jail. The changes in law aim to align the possession of marijuana and other states in the US. However, the support for the new law from the Republican-led legislature remains uncertain. Earlier this month, Wisconsin Assembly Speaker Robin Vos announced that he intends to reintroduce a limited marijuana bill in 2020.
