Ford Shifts Into High Gear: Q4 Total US Sales Surge 9%

Ford Motor Company F shares are trading slightly higher on Friday.

The company has experienced a solid performance in 2024, highlighted by a 17% increase in U.S. retail sales for the fourth quarter, driving total retail gains for the year to 6%.

Ford’s total fourth-quarter sales increased 9% compared to a full-year sales gain of 4%, with a total of 2.078 million vehicles sold.

For the year, Ford set a new record in electrified vehicle sales, with 285,291 hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and electric vehicles sold—a 38% increase compared to 2023. This figure outpaced competitors GM and Stellantis, cementing Ford’s position in the electrified vehicle market.

Ford’s Power Promise program helped boost Ford electric vehicle sales in the fourth quarter to 30,176 electric vehicles sold.

Ford noted that the Mustang Mach-E posted quarterly sales results with 16,119 vehicles sold, making it America’s best-selling electric SUV, behind only Tesla‘s Model Y in 2024.

In 2024, Mustang Mach-E, F-150 Lightning, and E-Transit were among the best performers, with sales of the Mustang Mach-E up 27% and F-150 Lightning up 39%.

The company’s hybrid vehicles also experienced significant growth, with the F-150 hybrid emerging as the best-selling hybrid truck in America, recording a 47% increase in sales.

Ford also capitalized on its “Freedom of Choice” strategy, offering a range of powertrain options for its F-Series trucks, which saw a 21% sales increase in the fourth quarter and maintained its position as America’s best-selling truck for the 48th consecutive year.

Ford’s Super Duty pickups gained traction, with a 30% increase in fourth-quarter sales. Transit vans, meanwhile, remained the top-selling van in America, with a 24% quarterly sales increase and a total of 152,738 units sold in 2024.

Lincoln also delivered solid results, achieving its best annual retail sales performance in 17 years, thanks to strong demand for its Nautilus and Aviator models. Lincoln sales were up 28% for the year, with the Nautilus posting an 88% increase in the fourth-quarter alone.

Ford’s strategic moves also included expanding its inventory to prepare for key product launches in 2025, including the new Expedition, Navigator, and Bronco.

Price Action: F shares are trading higher by 1.66% to $9.81 at last check Friday.
