MetLife, Inc. MET today announced that it has been named to the 2017 list of "Best Places to Work for Disability Inclusion" by the United States Business Leadership Network (USBLN) and American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD). This is the first time MetLife has been recognized for its efforts to provide a more inclusive workplace for people with disabilities.
The Disability Equality Index (DEI) is a national annual benchmarking survey that objectively scores businesses, on a 100-point scale, on their disability inclusion policies and practices. It is a joint initiative of the AAPD and USBLN and was developed by the DEI Advisory Committee, a diverse group of business leaders, policy experts and disability advocates.
"MetLife is committed to creating an inclusive work environment where employees with different abilities contribute to our business success," said Elizabeth Nieto, global chief diversity & inclusion officer. "By building awareness and supportive work environments, we empower our employees who are differently abled to grow, seize opportunities and reach their full potential."
MetLife offers an employee resource group, MetLife Diverse Abilities (MDA), to champion disability inclusion and awareness among MetLife's associates, customers and communities. MDA promotes a culture where employees feel empowered to reach their full potential through inclusion, representation and access to essential resources in the workplace and are recognized for their unique abilities, experiences and talents.
Additional resources and programs MetLife sponsors for disabled associates and their families include:
- Disability accommodations
- Restroom access, automatic doors and dedicated parking
- Health and wellness advocates to assist with program information
