Samsung Electronics Co. Files Lawsuits Against Apple Inc. (AAPL)

The Asian giant,S outh Korea's, Samsung Electronics Co. is at war with the US Apple Inc. (AAPL) about iPhone and iPad patents. Samsung is accusing Apple of violating its rights to 10 smartphone and computer patents. The company filed lawsuits Thursday in Seoul, Tokyo and Mannheim, Germany.

“Apple is quite annoyed by Samsung's fast rise in a market which it virtually created,” James Song, an analyst at Daewoo Securities, said on Friday.
“It's quite threatening to see how quickly Samsung plays catchup, and Apple might have felt a strong urge to put a brake on its march just when Samsung is set to roll out a new smartphone in May ahead of its new iPhone.”
Last week Apple accused Samsung of blatantly “copying” designs for its iPhone and iPad and filed a lawsuit against the company for violating its patents.

“Samsung is responding actively to the legal action taken against us in order to protect our intellectual property” the company says, “and to ensure our continued innovation and growth in the mobile communications business.” The irony, of course, is that Samsung produces many of the components Apple relies on for its iOS range.
