May the Fourth Be With You

May Fourth is well-known in nerd circles as the day when mother's basement is filled with bespeckled boys of all ages, donning makeshift light sabers and Jedi robes, all in celebration of a movie phenomenon older than most in the room. That's right, readers -- it's Star Wars Day! Virgins of the world unite today under the common banner of bringing the story of Luke, Leia, Yoda, and the Jedi to the world at-large. Unfortunately, this year, there are no wonderful movie releases or special-editions to announce on this day, which really should be a national holiday. But there are still several ways that traders can play Star Wars themes in their portfolios. One, you could consider building your own light saber. The technology may not exist outside of top secret government labs, but you could come pretty close with some aluminum Alcoa AA, some batteries Proctor and Gamble PG, and a giant lightbulb General Electric GE. Just don't pick purple, as that's been set aside for Samuel Jackson...and you do not want to make him angry. Two, you could work on being a Jedi yourself. Once you have the ability to use the force, levitate objects with your mind, and confuse erstwhile guards into thinking they're looking for other droids, all you really need is a brown robe Walmart WMT and a gym membership Life Time Fitness LTM. Lastly, you could just set yourself up with your own home theater system Best Buy BBY, and experience Jedi life the way Americans experience everything: on your buns La-Z-Boy LZB, with a soda Coca Cola KO in hand.
