Earnings Preview: Visa & How To Trade It (V, MA, DFS)

Visa V is set to report earnings tomorrow morning, and the whole world will be watching Visa, as Wall Street will be looking to hear what the company has to say about the Durbin rule, which affects debit-card fees. If Visa is able to surpass earnings estimates of $1.20 per share on $2.23 billion in sales, then names like Mastercard MA, American Express AXP, and Discover Financial Services DFS should perform well also. Revenues are expected to jump nearly 14% from last year, and the guidance is expected to come in at $1.20 per share on revenues of $2.28 billion. Currently, shares of Visa trade at 14 times forward earnings, and sport a 0.8% dividend yield to boot. Visa Inc. operates retail electronic payments network worldwide. It facilitates commerce through the transfer of value and information among financial institutions, merchants, consumers, businesses, and government entities.
