Shares of Polypore International, Inc. PPO are spiking on the day, gaining 20% on more than five times its average daily volume, as the company reported better than expected earnings.
The company reported earnings of 55 cents per share on revenues of $185.7 million. Wall Street had been expecting earnings of 39 cents per share on revenues of $165.2 million.
Robert B. Toth, President and Chief Executive Officer, said: "Our strong performance continued in the first quarter. Demand trends remain very positive and we are keenly focused on optimizing performance while ensuring the timely startup of our investments that will bring additional capacity online in the back half of 2011 and into 2012."
Polypore International, Inc., a technology filtration company, develops, manufactures, and markets microporous membranes used in separation and filtration processes.
