Shares of defensive names like Altria MO, The Procter & Gamble Company PG and Target Corporation TGT are higher today, as the broader equity market appears to be in a correction.
When the equity markets correct, defensive names, like the aforementioned, tend to outperform, as money from traders and investors has to go somewhere, and higher yielding, quality names tend to be the beneficiaries.
At last check, shares of Target were up 22 cents to $50.56, while shares of Procter & Gamble were up 61 cents to $67.55, a gain of nearly 1%, and Altria was up 26 cents to $27.75.
