Twitter will launch its own photo sharing service as early as Tuesday, according to TechCrunch who cites their own sources.
According to multiple sources, Twitter is on the verge on announcing its own built in Twitpic competitor. Like tomorrow, if things go according to plan (naturally this post might change that).
The move for Twitter to have its own photo sharing service could be for many reasons such as eliminating the need for more third-party Twitter clients. The more obvious choice would be that it is a way to bring in more money.
Currently Twitter users are required to use third-party services if they want to share pictures and videos with followers. The major services that Twitter users have come to use are TwitPic and yFrog. Both services are free for users while being supported by ads.
One major reason Twitter needs to announce its own photo sharing service is money, currently Twitter is still seen as unprofitable and the addition of a photo sharing service could bring in more revenue. In addition Twitter has been buying third-party clients lately because the company doesn't like the idea of applications that mimic the experience without adding value. With its own photo service Twitter could knock out services like TwitPic and yFrog while taking the revenue for itself.
