Sony-Inspired Hackings Give Codemasters One Giant Headache

Is this a coincidence or have I caught on to something? Whatever the case, Business Insider reports that Codemasters – famous for the DiRT series, among other hit racing games – was hacked last Friday. More specifically, hackers have gained access to the following information (list provided by Business Insider): • members' names • addresses • usernames • email addresses • telephone numbers • order history • dates of birth • encrypted passwords • any biographies entered by users • details of last site activity • IP addresses The only silver lining is that that customer payment information, including credit card numbers, is safe. The reason is not because Codemasters is an expert at data safety but because it uses another company to handle those transactions. So remember kids: the next time you want to give a game company your personal data, check to see if it processes your data in-house or allows another firm to handle that info. Of course, once hackers catch on to this, they might just cut out the middleman and hack the firm in charge of credit card transactions… Fun times we live in. Fun times.
