Goldman Sachs provided color on Apple's AAPL settlement with Nokia NOK.
In a research report published today, Goldman states, "We believe the up-front cost of Apple's Nokia settlement will be largely
immaterial to Apple's $66 billion cash balance, and we believe the ongoing
royalty is likely to have a 1%-2% impact to Apple's forward earnings. Most
important, we believe it is important to recognize that this was merely one
patent case in an evolving industry where IP ownership is still being
established. In future cases, it is possible that the settlements will fall in
Apple's favor, so the net impact of one case can be immaterial in the end."
On Friday, Apple lost 1.51% of its value to close the week at $1.51. Its shares continued to slide in today's pre-market trading, falling 0.75% to $317.85. At the same time, Nokia added 1.35% to its value on Friday to end the day at $6.02. Its shares lost all of Friday's gains in today's pre-market trading, however, falling 2.49% to $5.87.
