Google shuts down invitations to Google+ following "insane demand"

A few hours ago, Google opened up its testers of the new Google+ social network layer to invite other people to the service. As you'd expect, the news spread like wildfire and half of the Internet started trying to get their hands on an invite. Because of the “insane demand” for invites, Google has decided to close invitations to Google+ “for the night,” as noted by the project lead, Vic Gundotra in a post on Google+:

We've shut down invite mechanism for the night. Insane demand. We need to do this carefully, and in a controlled way. Thank you all for your interest!

For any who wish to leave, please remember you can always exit and take your data with you by using Google Takeout.

It's your data, your relationships, your identity.

So, as quick as they came, they are gone. Hopefully more open up tomorrow. We'll keep you posted.
