Facebook's chief executive said Wednesday that the company was planning to release an "awesome" new feature for its social network next week.
Facebook CEO and founder Mark Zuckerberg told reporters in Seattle on Wednesday that the company planned to "launch something awesome" next week.
The new product was developed in Facebook's 40-person Seattle office, which played a lead role in the creation of Facebook's mobile site.
According to a Reuters report, "There has been speculation in technology blogs in recent weeks about various mobile products in development at Facebook, including the release of a long-awaited Facebook app for Apple Inc's iPad and a specialized app for photo-sharing on the iPhone."
Facebook, the world's largest social network, is facing increasing competition from the likes of Twitter and Google. Google announced its new Google+ service on Tuesday, which is an alternative take on the social media environment.
The details of the remark has set the internet abuzz. Notably, users on Facebook have been clamoring for some sort of integrated video chat, as the popularity of services like Skype has exploded.
A Facebook spokesman declined to provide further details about Zuckerberg's comments.
