Overwatch Support Kellex Leaves Toronto Defiant And Washington Titans Crumble

In a list that has continued to grow since Jay "Sinatraa" Won announced his retirement from the Overwatch League, more players are expressing their concerns about the state of the league while others are jumping ship.

Frustration within the league and practices within specific organizations have created tension, and more players are looking at other esports endeavors. Toronto Defiant support Kristian "Kellex" Keller announced his departure from the Overwatch League on May 1, while the entire state of the Vancouver Titans remains in question.

Kellex Retires From Overwatch League

Kellex joined the Overwatch League as a member of the Boston Uprising, playing for the team for two season before signing onto the Toronto Defiant. The support player also played for Team Denmark for three years of the Overwatch World Cup. His news appeared on Twitter, claiming this "wasn't an easy choice to make." Kellex didn't reveal what his future plans are.

"After discussing this with my family and closest friends I know I've made the right decision for myself. It feels like this great weight has been lifted off my shoulders. From my start with Fragsters then making it into the Overwatch League with Boston Uprising and finally finishing my time in Overwatch with the Toronto Defiant, it's been a wild and fulfilling ride. I've also been super proud to represent Denmark in the World Cup for the last three years. I'd like this time to thank everyone that I've had the pleasure of working with. All my teammates, my coaches, my managers, my orgs and the Overwatch League itself. I'd like to thank all my wonderful fans that have followed me throughout my career and all the new fans I gained on the Defiant."

Substitute support player Park "RoKy" Joo-seong will possibly step up to fill the role.

The Vancouver Titans Fall Apart

Frustration has been rumbling behind the scenes of the Vancouver Titans for a while. Earlier reports suggest the players were "unhappy with the handling and communication of their management." In April, multiple sources spread that the members of the team were feuding with management. They all removed the Titans branding from their social media accounts. On April 30, news began to trickle out. Luminosity Gaming, the organization behind the Titans, posted the departures of head coach Hwang "PaJion" Jisub and player HyunWoo "JJANU" Choi on Twitter.

Tim Holloway, esports director of the Vancouver Titans, stated on the organization's official website.

"We would like to thank JJANU for his contributions to our team and helping to bring us success in our first year in the Overwatch League," Holloway said. "JJANU has always been an integral part of the Vancouver Titans both on and offline. In game, he supported his teammates by making critical team plays in critical moments. While offline, he carried himself to be a good sport and a supportive teammate. We wish him all the best in the future."

As for JJANU, he simply stated: "I am free."

No other news has come from the organization as of yet. It's speculated other players in the league intend on leaving if Activision Blizzard ATVI does not make vital changes.
