Apple AAPL has announced on Tuesday, it will host its virtual Worldwide Developers Conference event on June 22 for developers.

The coronavirus pandemic means Apple is hosting WWDC20 in an online format, with a virtual keynote and sessions for its developer community.

In February, the Mobile World Congress 2020 was canceled due to the pandemic.

This will be Apple’s 31st year hosting the WWDC 2020, which will take on an entirely new online format for consumers, press and developers alike.

Last year, the Apple Watch and Mac were meaningful contributors to App Store growth and further solidified Apple as the most attractive platform for app developers.

Previous WWDC Event Announcements

The big announcement from Apple at WWDC19 was the launch of “Sign In With Apple” feature that’s similar to the mechanisms that allow internet users to sign into third-party sites with their Facebook or Google IDs. But unlike those platforms, Apple said it won’t use the sign-in system for tracking.

At WWDC18, Apple focused on augmented reality features as a future growth driver. The company committed to making AR a key component of future products. Apple updated its iOS software, which improved the performance of older devices.

At WWDC17, Apple announced a new Amazon.com collaboration to enable Amazon Prime use through the TV App on AppleTV, iPhone or iPad.

Apple says the WWDC 20 online event will be an opportunity to get early access to the future of iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS and tvOS, and engage with Apple engineers as they work to build app experiences that enrich the lives of Apple customers around the globe.

The company also announced the Swift Student Challenge, an opportunity for student developers to showcase their love of coding by creating their own Swift playground.

Apple shares were up 1.76% at $298.31 near the end of Tuesday's session. The stock has a 52-week range between $327.85 and $170.27.
