10 Fastest-Shrinking Cities In America Since 2010

The U.S. Census Bureau has released nationwide population data reports, and 10 cities in America saw their populations decrease 6% or greater from 2010 to 2019.

Only two states featured on the list multiple times: Indiana and Michigan. 

Indiana’s cities of Hammond and Gary experienced 6.6% and 6.7% population decreases over the past decade. Michigan saw Saginaw experiencing a decrease of 6.5% and Flint by 6.6%.

The fastest-shrinking city in America? None other than Charleston, West Virginia, which saw a percent decrease in population of 9.4%.

Our data team also recently uncovered seven of the 10 cities featuring the top percent change in population growth between 2010 and 2019 are located in top retirement destinations Florida, California and Texas.
